MUST HAVE:
1) =12 years of experience as a Mainframe Systems Programmer
2) =5 years of experience acting in a lead or management role as a Systems Programmer
3) Demonstrated skills supporting 3rd-party applications for the mainframe
4) Demonstrated skills and experience supporting mainframe applications in a GDPS environment
5) Deep experience supporting mainframe systems in an agile environment
6) Experience supporting DevOps in a mainframe environment

Overview:
Our client is seeking a Lead Systems Programmer to help us lead our efforts to support our business and technology goals in the mainframe environment. In this strategic and challenging position, we will expect you to use your experience and expertise in the latest mainframe technologies to help support application development across all areas of our business. In this role you will lead our team of system engineers, managing the software on the mainframe. The Lead Mainframe Systems Programmer will help in providing long- and short-term strategic direction for the functional team for multiple applications and/or cost centers. In this capacity, you will serve as the primary contact to the leadership team and business partners.

Primary Responsibilities:
Research products and solutions that can modernize the mainframe and support agile DevSecOps processing.
Research products and solutions that will leverage new features/functions within the operating system to optimize our environment.
Build 3-year strategic z Platform roadmap.
Partner with the application development teams to quickly perform POC initiatives, knowing that many POC’s may be discarded and not implemented.
Reduce costs by eliminating non-essential software that is no longer valuable.
Look for and implement automation opportunities.
Provide mentorship and establish a program to attract, train, and retain the new generation of z/OS programmers and staff members.
Ensure that legacy/senior staff members are documenting key processes to build a robust knowledge repository, and that they are cross-training junior/other members of the team to eliminate SPOF.
Build a high-performing and high-potential team by empowering staff to take ownership of the work performed and the projects they support.
Participate with software financial planning and management.

Recapping Required Skills and Experience:
A minimum of 12 years of experience as a Mainframe Systems Programmer
A minimum of 5 years of experience acting in a lead or management role as a Systems Programmer
Must have demonstrated skills supporting third-party applications for the mainframe
Must have demonstrated skills and experience supporting mainframe applications in a GDPS environment
Must have deep experience supporting mainframe systems in an agile environment
Must have prior experience supporting DevOps in a mainframe environment
