Project Scope / Components: They are an API Layer exposing United Health data to external parties. Customers hit their APIs for things like claims, customer information etc. 25-ish APIs and they have a really old codebase. They want to modernize the platform à Microservices Architecture and Azure (full tear down and re-write
· They are a full DevOps shop where they manage the entire platform.
· They might also build a couple of Admin UIs
Development Methodology: Agile – 2 week sprints
Timeline / Current–State: The past 4 months have been identifying as assessing the current platform as well as the future Azure platform.
Team Size & Breakdown: 5 teams, 2 are focused on modernization while 3 are keeping the lights on with the existing APIs.
High-Level Individual Duties: Working on modernizing the legacy API (understand it, rewrite, test)
Concepts & Tools this team is using / working on:
· Kotlin (Functional)
o Can look at Functional Programming generally (Scala, Haskell, Clojure)
· Java / Spring Boot (2.3 + is ideal)
· Reactive Programming model (functional) – look for people from Target (Target.com) or other Ecommerce companies
· CI/CD – Building Azure Infra (any cloud experience is ok…for example, if they have AWS they should have API Gateway)
o AKS
o CosmosDB
o Circuit Breaker Patterns
o “Building a Forward Caching Layer” – Redis or Cosmos
· Security experience is important
· Unit & Integration (Groovy Spock) / Functional (Cucumber) / Performance (Gatling)
· Building messaging queues with Kafka
