A Software Development Engineer in Test at Client has had professional or academic experience developing complex test automation software, has acquired a sophisticated understanding of how reliable production software is tested, and is well versed in the application of Computer Science to solve practical problems and design highly performant automation. About the Team The Web Experience Engineering team has responsibility for the technologies that power our Web and Application Solutions. Our technologies improve the speed, reliability, and security of thousands of websites and web applications running on the Internet. Members of our DevQA team have a strong focus on System, Component and Integration testing across our Test Networks to provide reliable end-to-end workflows through our Distributed Systems. Knowledge & Responsibilities Strong focus in exercising Load, Stress and Scaling tests for Performance tuning against 24/7/365 globally Distributed Systems. Developed complex implementation techniques to determine resource usage for improved scalability and reliability. Can effectively translate performance metrics data into reports to help identify a baseline, incrementally stress the system to define an accurate threshold, determine performance benchmarking and offer guidance to re-calibrate for optimal performance. Proven experience in automating end-to-end workflow-based CRUD APIs Functional Skills Scoping and Planning Effectively translates design documents and related materials into test strategies & test plans. Develops system integration tests to measure speed, response time, throughput, resource usage and stability. Can successfully work independently and drive projects with little direction Can effectively translate metrics results into reports to drive performance improvements Test Automation Ability to take existing Regression, Component, Functional, System and Integration automation tests to focus on loading and stressing the system Develops code that is highly efficient, reliable, maintainable, and extendable. Makes effective judgments about when to extend the existing automation framework and build new utilities using open-source tools. Ability to dive quickly into unfamiliar code to assist others and make an immediate contribution. Develops the simplest, most readable code possible, including good abstractions, well-defined interfaces, meaningful variable names and a clean decomposition into files in the source control system. Testing Reuse existing tests against load and performance conditions to effectively determine release acceptance and readiness. Leverages integration testing with other Client components to measure performance and latency. Contributes to the automation framework by defining test suites specific to Load|Stress|Performance. Uses a variety of tools and techniques to monitor system spike usage, performance throttling and recommend scaling solutions. Required Education and Experience Applicants must meet the following education and experience requirements: Required Skills 2+ years' experience programming automation tests in Java/Python or equivalent. 2+ years of software test and/or development engineering experience overall 1+ year with network protocols TCP/UDP/HTTP/GRE 1+ year of hands-on experience with UNIX/Linux Operating System 1+ year experience with shell scripting. Desired Skills Ability and agility to quickly learn new technologies Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills Experience with data-driven systems Experience with JIRA for bug tracking/project management. Experience with MySQL/Oracle/Cassandra/Postgres databases. Experience with GIT and Perforce. Familiarity with Jenkins. Experience testing network focused applications, in particular security appliances. Experience testing applications in an agile development environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Highly driven, positive attitude, team player, self-motivated and quickly adaptable.
