Responsibilities:

Perform assigned investigation and tests in order to ensure sound and factual conclusions supported by accurate and reliable data within budgetary and time constraints.

 

Design and fabricate testing apparatus, not available for purchase, at a reasonable cost, from existing components necessary for assigned projects.

Develop particular procedures and recommend purchase of necessary components, equipment and supplies related for assigned projects.

Provide technical direction to subordinates in set-up, trouble-shooting and necessary corrective action required for assigned investigations and tests.

Prepare clear and complete reports for assigned projects.

Maintain an increasing level of knowledge of practical technical application of engineering or scientific knowledge to ensure personal development and contribution to the achievement of personal, unit and company goals and objectives.

 

Keep appropriate supervisory management informed of the status and progress of all work in process and of any significant development affecting assigned projects.

Qualifications:

Education: Associate Degree in a Technical Field

 

Experience: 8 years general mechanical or electrical work experience, or 5 years as a Senior Engineering/Research Technician.

  • Skills/Knowledge: Laboratory testing, product assembly, equipment repair, mathematical computation or data tabulation, use of laboratory test equipment.
  • Experience in TD/GC/MS (thermal desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) analysis, FTIR Spectroscopy or small scale material flammability measurements highly desirable!
  • Good mechanical skills with familiarity of common hand tools and power tools, ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills (both orally and in writing) and the ability to work effectively as a member of a team are required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently.
  • Ability to understand and follow English instructions
  • Ability to push, pull, lift and carry up to 50 pounds (unassisted) on a regular basis; up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Must have good understanding from experience or training in root cause analysis providing ability to analyze facts and find problem solutions.
  • Work environment involves fire, smoke, heat, dust and the use of adhesives and binders.
