Priority Skills:

Nonprofit accounting, knowledge, and experience managing federal and state grants and contract billing, UFR, 990, audit (regular and single audit), experience managing the accounting function; experience leading accounting through a software change is a plus

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for 3 main bodies of work:

1) directing and coordinating all accounting functions, internal controls, and the annual audit

2) preparing financial statements for both management and external audiences

3) managing federal and state grants and contracts including budget analysis, reporting, and compliance.

The Controller supervises the Senior Accountant and works closely with the rest of the Finance team and program staff to ensure that programmatic and financial objectives are met according to IINE’s annual budget and funding deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 1. Accounting and Internal Controls

·       Oversee and direct the quality and accuracy of work performed by accounting staff

·       Develop, implement, and monitor internal control policies, guidelines, and accounting procedures

·       Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and guide organizational policies and procedures

·       Oversee and produce monthly and quarterly financial reports for both management and the Board

 2. Federal and State Grant & Contracts Management

·       Work in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer, the Chief Program Officer, and the Chief Institutional Advancement Officer in determining contract and grant budget proposals

·       Responsible for all federal and state contract billing and reporting

·       Determine when grant and contract amendments are required and prepare and file accordingly

·       Ensure that all public funding is leveraged properly and utilized, maximizing cost recovery for the organization

·       Prepare and manage fund allocations, including direct and indirect cost allocation to multiple funding sources in accordance with funding requirements

 3. Annual Planning and Audit

·       Assist with the annual budgeting process, working with the CFO and site Managing Directors in determining site budgets

·       Support various financial analysis and models as needed including multi-year forecasts and ad-hoc financial analysis projects

·       Oversee the preparation of the annual Audit and other required state and federal filings including form 990 and UFR

·       Assist CFO with preparing Finance and Board committee materials

·       Partners with the CFO in determining budgets for new initiatives designed to provide sustainable operations and programming

·       Perform all other duties assigned by the supervisor.

 Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, a bachelor’s degree in Finance combined with strong hands-on accounting experience, master’s in Accounting preferred

·       Advanced understanding of non-profit accounting GAAP and FASB accounting standards and experience managing federal and state grants and contracts.

·       Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience as a Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, Controller, or equivalent in an organization with multiple public and private revenue streams

·       Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a non-profit, human services agency, preferably in Massachusetts and/or New Hampshire, managing and executing public grants and contracts

·       Proficiency with Sage Intacct preferred but not required

·       Advanced Excel skills required

·       Strong integrity and work ethic
