Job Description:
This job exists for the purpose of data architecting transactional, master data management, and BI systems that support the enterprise data warehouse and all subsequent projects associated with that enterprise data warehouse structure.
Provides revised and/or new standards and guidelines to ensure that the data warehouse is aligned with the most current strategies, methodologies and architectural visions.
Information Modeling Ensures that the logical enterprise information model (EIM) is updated with entity and attribute definitions that adequately represent the business and are made shareable across projects. Signs off on work done by Data Integration Architects in performance engineering the department’s integration and presentation layers by following current Data Modeling Practice Standards & Guidelines and Information Management data warehousing architectural principles.
Requirements Analysis Determines virtualization versus physicalization of the EDW presentation layer based upon business and technical requirements to ensure that the best approach is used to deliver data to the business in order to meet their analysis and reporting needs.
Architecture – Accountable for Architect related deliverables to ensure all project goals are met within the project time lines by working closely with project team. Collaborates with Information Management Lead Information Architect in developing the overall data warehouse architecture. Resolves architecture related problems by developing cohesive solutions that benefit the project and the department.
Mapping Performs mapping between source and target data, as well as performing logical model to physical model mapping and mapping from third normal form to dimensional (presentation layer
Standard Query Language Oversees the design of and tactical implementation of custom views to ensure optimization based on the RDBMS (Relational Database Management System) being used. Develops end user presentation layer physical structures to support end user reporting needs.
Documentation Creates, validates and updates the data dictionary by interviewing IS implementers, business users, querying data directly and analyzing documentation to make sure that the information captured is correct.
Standards & Process Provides Data Integration Architect estimates and refines as necessary throughout the system development life cycle to ensure that the Project Manager has the best information possible to create and maintain project schedules. Leads the timely resolution of data architectural issues and problems to reduce the impact on changes to a project. Creates and revises new and existing Data Integration Architect standards and guidelines to ensure that the data warehouse is aligned with the most current strategies, methodologies and architectural visions.
Knowledge Sharing Provides knowledge transfer to other data integration architects on staff (internal or external) to ensure that they understand existing architectural policies, procedures and standards. Mentors Data Integration Architects in understanding architectural designs to include advice, training and serving as point of contact for questions on tools and standards.
Hiring Requirements
Bachelor’s degree
5 years of IS data warehouse experience
In lieu of degree, 7 years of IS data warehouse experience
2 years of data warehousing architectural experience
Hiring Preferences
Working experience implementing large DBMSs (Teradata/UDB/Oracle)
Aptitude for understanding architectural concepts
Good understanding of project management methodologies
Strong working knowledge of ERWin or similar data modeling tool
Strong working knowledge of ER/Objects/Dimensional modeling concepts
Strong data analysis skill
Focus on customer needs, business processes and relationships of customer data
Ability to achieve and be accountable for timely delivery of architectural results that support business needs
Strong problem solving skills
