Required Skills:

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent)
Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a firmware development role involving the coding, debugging, test and documentation of embedded designs
Familiarity with ARM, STM, TI, Renesas, Microchip microcontrollers and IDE’s
Strong experience coding in C
Familiarity with agile/team collaboration firmware development
Experience with motor and motion control is a plus
Previous industry experience working for a consumer product company or in the in-home Robot space is highly desirable
Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or guidance
Proven ability to drive innovation in the engineering conceptualization stages by pushing technology limits while balancing feasibility criteria such as manufacturability, cost, technology risk, implementation schedule
A broad view and understanding of the product development process as it relates to embedded design, and effective experience delivering products on time
Solid analytical skills with a strong attention to detail
Familiarity with tracking tools such as JIRA and revision control such as SVN or Git
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) along with good sound interpersonal skills
Ability to meet deadlines

Internal Description:

As part of our expanding Robotics Team you will be responsible for developing Shark’s next generation of connected robots. We seek a passionate leader, innovator and problem solver, to help define our firmware architecture, collaborate with 3rd party vendors, build a team for the future, and drive our inline development to product release.

This role will focus on embedded firmware design and product development lifecycle for our ambitious product roadmap. The successful candidate will have experience developing and managing embedded firmware projects for consumer products or similar. Experience with 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers, bare metal architectures, micro kernels such as FreeRTOS are essential. The ideal candidate would have strong leadership abilities, and value all aspects of the software product lifecycle such as best practice coding standards, documentation, configuration management, issues tracking, test and source control methodologies.

Responsibilities:

Architecture design of robot embedded software, primarily in C, for consumer products from initial concept to on-going product support post launch
Firmware project management such as estimating level of effort and timelines
Analyze product requirements to plan and estimate firmware development activities including coding, debugging and test
Develop clear and concise firmware specifications and solutions to meet product requirements
Work closely with the system test team to ensure the delivery of high-quality design
Interact with team members from other disciplines to complete project deliverables, solve problems and to report status
Support fielded products, and perform analysis of field-reported issues
Lead and mentor a growing team
