Education:

· Bachelors Degree or above

· Major in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems or equivalent



Experience / Other Requirements:

· Must possess more than 5 years of dedicated DBA experience with Netezza (Stripper, TwinFin, Meko)

· Experience with IIAS is preferred

· Experience with scripting languages such as Unix Shell (ksh, bash, csh) and Perl

· Must be familiar with support tools such as PMR process, ServiceNow

· Excellent leadership, analytical, problem solving, and communication skills

· English: Fluent (Writing and speaking)



General Role Description:

Basic Maintenance and Database Administration for the IBM PureData for Analytics (PDA) and IBM Integrated Analytics System (IIAS) solutions



Role and Key Responsibilities:

· Database Administration (DBA) tasks and technical team lead

· Detect and resolve problems with the appliances

· Collaborate with Client Technical Teams (Application Development teams, System Administrators etc), Client Management, Client Operations Team and IBM 24x7 team

· Interact with IBM Support and IBM Management



Skills/Abilities:

· Work with the client(customer) team to detect and resolve developing problems for the number of appliances, as well as perform database administration tasks.

· Governance and Operations Management: Provide Operations Management and Governance for the environment as follows:

o Provide status reports and host status meetings bi-weekly, or with other mutually agreed frequency.

o Coordinate response to issues that require multiple individuals or organizations to resolve the request.

o Notify Client of planned and unplanned changes, and unexpected outages

o Track the product life cycle status of the Appliance Client is currently using, and provide recommendations to Client on when to move to a newer version to avoid end of-support issues.

o Drive escalations on Cleint’s behalf on issues related to the Appliance.

o Assist data warehouse application developers by offering expert opinions into technical decision-making.

o Provide product expertise into change management discussions, supporting the Client application developers in troubleshooting application problems and future planning regarding the Appliance.

o Work with Client to plan for heightened exception support, mutually agreed to by the DBA and the Client, that may be required during critical business periods.

o Participate in meetings as invited by Client to provide input on upcoming initiatives that may affect operational behavior of the Appliances such as application changes, addition of new data sources, and growth in user population, changing workloads, and other routine evolutionary changes.

· Basic Management: DBA will provide basic management of the appliance as follows:

o Configure notification mechanism to provide the DBA with alerts indicating when the Appliances require attention. Upon mutual agreement, Client may elect to supplement DBA’s monitoring through additional alerting using tools provided by the Client such as SNMP-based monitoring. For alerting technology provided by the Client, Client will be responsible for the setup, configuration, licensing fees, and ongoing administration of alert rules implemented through such tools. Only alerts related to hardware, operating system, and database software will be considered in scope for this deliverable.

o DBA will perform reactive problem response and management for hardware, operating system, and the data warehouse software, as follows:

§ Open support tickets when need is indicated by alerts

§ Act on Client’s behalf to submit diagnostic data and information about the environment to DBA Support for issues indicated by alerts;

§ Handle all communications with DBA Support on behalf of issues indicated by alerts;

§ Implement fixes and/or workarounds as indicated by alerts in compliance with mutually agreed change management policies and processes;

§ Provide updates to Client on resolution of alerts with a frequency mutually agreed upon by both parties.

§ Receive escalations of problems which Client’s help desk staff has isolated as likely due to Appliance behavior, and serve as your backline support to drive the diagnosis/resolution through the support process;

§ Bring DBA expertise related to the Appliance into troubleshooting of potential interoperability issues with other technologies in the environment. Collaborate with Client’s technical staff as required when isolating root cause and resolving such issues. Troubleshooting and resolution of all such interoperability issues shall be led by the Client, with DBA performing a supporting role;

§ Hours of Operation for Monitoring & Resolution are as follows:

· For each appliance, Hours of Operation for DBA response to Alerts will be solely Prime Shift or whether Hours of Operation will include 24x7;

· When the 24x7 option has been selected for Hours of Operation, only Severity 1 issues will be worked during Offshift hours. All other issues will be worked only during Prime Shift;

· Availability of hardware repairs during Offshift hours is dependent on whether you have purchased the Business Critical support option for the Appliance separate from this Agreement.

§ DBA will manage application of software fixes and patches on your behalf, as follows:

· Track availability of new software fixes and patches;

· Evaluate content of the software fix or patch to assess suitability for your environment;

· Work with your change management processes to schedule and coordinate implementation of the software update;

· Drive resolution of any post-installation issues discovered.

§ Database Administration: DBA will handle day-to-day operational database administration for Appliances, as follows:

· Perform regular analysis of system health metrics, discuss with you risks uncovered, and take actions to mitigate.

· Provide query performance logs for you to review on a monthly basis. Provide Client with suggestions on steps to follow in addressing concerns with queries.

· Perform periodic assessments of database statistics and update when needed.

· Run backups using backup infrastructure and scripts or scheduled jobs provided by you to perform backups with mutually agreed frequency. If backups fail, determine whether root cause is the Appliance and if it is, resolve. If Appliance is performing correctly, refer to Client to resolve, collaborating as needed. DBA will perform restores as required, provided Client assigns an individual who knows the backup/restore infrastructure to assist DBA as needed.

· Administration of user additions/deletions, permissions, security access, and passwords received through your security-approved channels. Client will validate all such requests through your standard security policies before providing them to DBA for implementation.

· Create database objects such as tables, views, and stored procedures under the direction of Client’s application development team.

· Reclaim space, database grooming.

· Manage distribution of user data across all of the data slices in the Appliance for the purpose of reducing I/O throughput and therefore optimizing query performance.

· Collaborate as required with Client’s application developers to move changes into production and resolve postproduction issues. For such issues, Client will be responsible; DBA will perform a supporting role.

· Collaborate with subject matter experts provided by the Client on diagnostic activities involving interoperability issues with ancillary technologies you are using with the Appliance.

· Other standard database administration tasks of a routine operational or maintenance nature not itemized above.

· Perform these Database Administration tasks during Hours of Operation which are Prime Shift only. Offshift exceptions may occasionally be permitted upon mutual agreement as follows:

o On specific, pre-scheduled occasions, the Consultant and DBA may mutually agree for the Consultant to be available during an Offshift maintenance window to assist in stabilizing the environment after changes are applied.

o Such Offshift effort is subject to the availability of the Consultant, with sufficient advance notice.

o Such Offshift effort is subject to the availability of the Consultant, with sufficient advance notice.

o Client must accommodate such work to be performed while working at a site convenient to the Consultant, such as but not limited to the Consultant’s home.

o The Consultant may delegate some such tasks to members of the Essential Alert Response Staff, when skills and knowledge of the Client environment permit.

§ On-Site Visits: The primary delivery of services will be performed remotely

· If on-site visits are designated, DBA will travel to Client site to perform Services for the Appliance when required

· The quantity of On-Site Days included for the initial Contract Period and each Renewal Term thereafter.

· The scope of work to be performed during On-Site Days and the dates of such On-Site Days shall be mutually agreed to by both parties in writing at least 30 days prior to the rendering of any such Services.

· The tasks performed during such visits may include, but are not limited to:

o Provide input into application design meetings, project planning meetings, or other initiatives involving the Appliance.

o Helping your team drive key events in the environment such as application deployments or upgrades, new user activations, etc. DBA’s support will be specific to the role the Appliance plays in these key events.

o On-site troubleshooting and/or problem identification related to the Appliance.

o Sharing knowledge of proven practices through mentoring, technical talks, or question-and-answer sessions to help your team raise its proficiency in working with the Appliance.

o Work session to review and plan for problem prevention for your environment.

o Working face-to-face with you to plan or implement changes to the environment.

o Other activities as mutually agreed by both parties.
