IT ERP Senior Business Analyst - Functional
The overall objective of the senior business analyst (BA) is to lead the business analysis efforts for company IT projects, especially complex initiatives, using the established business analysis guidelines.
The senior BA may also be involved in project management activities.
Responsibilities:
Conduct Business Analysis
Specific to Senior BA:
Direct business analysis effort for strategic initiatives or divisional level projects/programs of the highest complexity and impact
Partnering with enterprise architects and/or solution architects, work with business sponsors to understand future strategic initiatives and IT involvement that may be needed for these.
The Senior Business Analyst may drive changes to the business analysis process at the direction of the PMO manager.
Shared with the Information Technology Business Analyst role:
Work with the project sponsor to document the project’s business requirements.
Identify project stakeholders and elicit requirements from the stakeholders using appropriate methods.
For waterfall projects – Document functional requirements and non-functional requirements according to standard templates, using natural language clearly, unambiguously, and concisely.
For Agile projects – Document all user requirements, functional requirements and non-functional requirements clearly, unambiguously and concisely in the agreed upon user story format.
Lead requirements validation activities to confirm that a solution based on the requirements would meet customer needs and achieve the business objectives.
Lead and facilitate ongoing requirement or user story prioritization.
Define and document project scope statement on exploratory projects and project charters (as applicable)
Working with the enterprise architect and/or solution architect, provide research and analysis to support the selection of business application software required to support business requirements.
Product Ownership
The senior BA may be called upon to spend a portion of time owning acting as product owner for a single product or group of products.
When functioning in this capacity, the job description for the product owner role will apply.
Project Management
The senior BA may be responsible for project management on assigned projects.
When acting in this capacity, the senior BA will comply with and enforce standard project management policies and guidelines as set forth by the IT PMO.
Lead the planning and implementation of IT projects using the established ABC process.
Coordinate the work effort of a project with assigned resources.
Provide weekly status reports to the PMO and project team in a standard format.
Highlight project issues and project risks that could cause the project to not meet expectations.
Highlight change requests and follow the approval process.
Mentoring and Training of Other Business Analysts
The senior BA may be responsible to mentor and direct/train new business analysts in the Project Management Office
May be assigned as Lead Business Analyst on larger projects and direct the work of additional business analysts on the same project
Key competencies
Excellent written/verbal communication and facilitation skills for communicating at all levels; including strong presentation skills
ERP and Financial Experience is a MUST
Interpersonal skills, to help negotiate priorities and resolve conflicts among project stakeholders
Leadership skills, to create a collaborative environment an influence people to move toward a common goal
Listening skills, to understand what people say and observe when there are additional areas to explore that may not initially be vocalized
Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Project, Visio, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
Ability to learn, understand and apply new technologies
Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Organizational skills, to work with the vast array of information gathered during elicitation and analysis and to deal with rapidly changing information
Ability to effectively work independently and across teams, functions and departments.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Solid understanding of business analysis tools and techniques and ability to choose the appropriate tools for a given project
Knowledge of PMBOK processes, techniques and tools
Knowledge of SDLC and/or ITIL
Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management
