Title: Application Analyst

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor''s degree or equivalent experience. Master''s degree or equivalent experience preferred. Certification in at least one Health Information Technology (HIT) area. Minimum of three years’ experience in Information Technology/Computer Science and/or Health information technology discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience. Three years’ experience in working on medium to large sized systems projects in a technology-driven environment. Experience with the Information Technology software and/or other clinical systems. Experience working independently and demonstrated accountability for groups of tasks or processes. Experience in a health care environment.
Must have demonstrated knowledge and/or skills in the following areas:
Minimum of six years’ experience supporting electronic health records and practice management systems as an application analyst in an ambulatory setting; NextGen a must. Experience with EDR (from QSI) and Avatar (from NetSmart) and/or other E.H.R, systems a plus.
Knowledge of clinical informatics and expertise with clinical workflows.
Knowledge and experience with supporting and/or developing IT systems and applications.
A good understanding of healthcare data and reports development experience.
Critical thinking and Problem-solving ability.
Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
Excellent Verbal and written communications to convey detailed or important instructions.
Highly motivated self-learner.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Working collaboratively with Clinical Services and other departments, provides leadership and expertise in the optimization of clinical workflows and use of the NextGen, EDR (QSI) and Avatar (NetSmart) Electronic Health Record (EHR) Systems – referred to the organization EHR Systems henceforth;
Principal responsibilities and duties include systems implementation projects support, on-going maintenance and support of application and other systems and user support.
Serves as the primary contributor and consultant for patient care services divisions in the planning, design, development, implementation, functionality and evaluation of clinical workflows and integrated clinical and business information systems that support and enhance clinical practice, administrative and management needs and patient outcomes.
Acts as the principal resource in IS with expertise to coordinate and provide support for all new and current clinical applications and software implementations and upgrades applicable to the clinical systems.
Working with representatives of the organizations divisions, contributes to identifying and prioritizing of, as well as development, generation and dissemination reports needs from the EMR, PM and other clinical systems;
Responsible for acquiring in-depth knowledge of all clinical software used in the organization.
Promotes the organizations vision and mission to staff, patients and the public at large.
Maintains confidentiality regarding patient/client and employee information.
Provides services, as directed, at facilities other than one of our location in the event that an incident that compromises the safety, security or integrity of the United States of America should occur.
Assisting with development of plans, strategies and tactics for employee education to support new and existing application systems.
Serves as mentor/coach to more junior Clinical Applications Analysts.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. User Support
Supports existing clinical applications including installing upgrades, providing enhancements and problem management.
Resolves support issues according to IT policies and providing documentation to for future reference.
Provides consultation on process analysis and design, recommending alternative solutions to meet those needs.
Acts as liaison between Information Systems vendors and internal departments as necessary.
Serves as liaison to major user groups, including Nursing, Physician, on clinical information systems issues.
Troubleshoots and resolves reported system and application problems.
Provides after-hours on call service as required.
2. Systems Implementation Project and maintenance Support
Participates in evaluations of application version updates, revisions and upgrades; recommends priorities and facilitates and supports system installation through the implementation cycle.
Ensures adequate support for all clinical applications and coordinates with other appropriate teams.
Identifies customer functional requirements and translates functional requirements into system design, ensuring that systems deliver the desired capabilities to meet the needs of the users.
Assists with product selection based on identified functional requirements.
Participates in developing a project plan with timelines, milestones, roles and responsibilities, communication plan, based on priorities and resource requirements.
Participates in developing conversion/migration requirements and life cycle plans including designing, configuring, testing, debugging, implementing and documenting phases.
Ensures that releases are properly tested and quality assured prior to moving to production.
Develops detailed Unit Test plans, executes tests to verify configuration satisfies design requirements, and updates configuration based on results.
Participates in developing and documenting Integration Test and User Acceptance Test plans based on functional specifications.
Complies with Policies and Procedures regarding IT Change Management.
Works with clinical representatives after the conclusion of projects to measure results of initiatives.
Maintains current knowledge of trends in information systems.
Continually meets certification requirements described in “Job Requirements” by completing continuing education per our EHRs vendor’s specifications.
3. Reports Development and maintenance
Working with representatives of our divisions, contributes to identifying and prioritizing of reports needs from the EMR, PM and other clinical systems;
Develop, run and disseminate clinical quality report, UDS reports, and other reports to meet our divisions’ requests;
Revises as necessary existing PM, EMR and other business system reports, with a record of the report design documentation;
Spearheads the introduction, dissemination and staff training on new reports made for the organization;
4. Clinical Informatics
Performs assessment of clinical workflow processes, translating user requirements into solutions, identifying gaps, escalating and coordinating process solutions to support best practice use of all clinical information systems including but not limited to the organizations EHR Systems.
Actively engage staff and providers in improving utilization of the organizations EHR Systems.
Shadow staff and providers as needed to identify best practices, provide assistance where appropriate, and identify opportunities for revision to the organizations EHR Systems implementations.
Identify workflow related issues that require intervention by the EHR vendors and coordinate that communication and follow-up.
Serve as the clinical lead for the integration of the organizations EHR Systems in use.
Publish and distribute regular EHR Systems tips newsletter or other media to share best practices and educate staff and providers regarding helpful tips and trick to improve utilization of these EHRs.
Participate in quality improvement processes related to productivity, clinical outcomes, and other quality improvement initiatives that rely on output from our EHR Systems to monitor progress.
Support quality improvement efforts of network members, including Meaningful Use, Uniform Data System (UDS), Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and other common outcome measures.
5. Others
Adheres to all policies, procedures, and protocols governing infection control, disposal of infectious/hazardous waste, and handling of hazardous materials. Follow guidelines and instructions detailed in OSHA/Infection Control Manual.
Adheres to all policies and procedures concerning fire safety, management of medical emergencies, natural disasters, and other safety concerns, according to protocols, guidelines and instructions detailed in Clinical Policies and Procedures Manual and all other manuals concerning such issue.
Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the organization.
