Job Description :
A Day in the Life of an Progress Database Administrator:

The Progress Database Administrator is responsible for all Progress database administration functions including definition, maintenance, and support in a large production environment within an enterprise network.


Install and configure Progress RDBMS and application servers
Perform database maintenance tasks such as dumps/loads, upgrades, and storage management
Ensures database availability in a high demand environment
Implements and maintains performance optimization, clustering, and replication strategies and approaches
Oversees data model including oversight and consultation on proposed modifications
Monitors and enforces data integrity and consistency
Physical database design and implementation in a Linux/Progress environment
Manages backup, restore, and recovery processes
Monitor database performance and system resources
Participate in application design and code reviews
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues
Take on ownership of the projects and tasks assigned
Provide on-call support and duties
Consistently meet task deadlines while maintaining high quality of deliverables


Bachelor’s degree in software development or related experience in the healthcare IT industry
Three years Progress database design/architecture and database administration experience in a Linux environment
Expertise in strategies and approaches for performance optimization, clustering, and replication
Experience in ABL coding and UNIX shell scripting
SQL coding experience is desirable but not required
Healthcare IT experience is a plus
