Engineering Degree (Mechanical Preferred)
Automotive Experience preferred, most cases will be working with powertrain or Chassis parts.
Will be looking a candidate 5 - 10 years of experience
The role of the Safety Forensic Engineer (SFE) is to proactively identify potential safety issues on GM vehicles using
information from a variety of sources. Information may come from data mining or early feedback from employees
and customers. The SFE will work with the Field Data Analysis Team to find potential anomalies in vehicle
performance and probe further by conducting research which may include inspection of vehicles in the field. If
warranted, the SFE will recommend an internal investigation be opened by the Product Investigations Team and
support the investigation with background information as required.
Responsibilities
Work with the Field Data Analysis Team to identify potential anomalies in field performance that should be
understood in more detail.
Research the development of components and subsystems within the context of observed field performance by
leveraging GM resources. This may include identifying and interviewing GM employees as well as probing GM
systems for historical information related to the parts in question.
Utilize existing field inspection processes to gain further information about specific vehicles.
When appropriate, conduct field inspections of post-crash vehicles or in-service vehicles either at dealerships or
in the possession of a customer.
Compile and scrutinize gathered information to determine if the observed field performance may constitute an
emerging issue.
Make formal recommendations to the Product Investigation Team for internal investigation of potential emerging
issues.
Support resulting investigations as required with background information and engineering analysis.
