Senior Unix Engineer


The Senior Unix Engineer will be responsible for department performance, uptime and cohesiveness. This also includes the design and ongoing management of the production, development, and disaster recovery Unix, storage and backup environments. The engineer will be asked to design, participate and lead enterprise level projects.
Daily responsibilities will include the automation, management, monitoring, performance tuning, and the resolution of IT system problems. Must be able to interact with multiple project teams, manage simultaneous projects, and provide department presentations.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or related degree. Advanced degree or equivalent work experience is desirable.
8-plus years of experience in Information Technology.
5-plus years of experience with senior-level Unix and storage engineering duties.
Experience managing change, implementing new processes and best practices in medium/large-scale mixed Unix/Windows environments.
Ideal candidate will have experience working in the Pharmaceutical Research/Biotechnology industry.

Required Skills:

Proven history of senior level technical skills within the Unix, storage and backup environments. Windows/Active Directory integration experience is a plus.
Experience with configuration management, automated deployment and patching systems such as CFEngine, Puppet, or Chef.
Senior level knowledge of file systems, server builds and external SAN/NAS storage.
High level scripting skills with technologies such as Ruby, Python, PowerShell, etc.
Ability to develop and support a DevOps-centric/”infrastructure-as-code” support model. Experience with Amazon Web Services highly desired.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex Unix, storage and backup issues.
Participate on project teams to provide guidance, support and architect services.
Document, maintain and adhere to departmental standards and policies.
Flexible work schedule.
Available for issue resolution and assistance after hours.
