Senior HR Information Systems Administrator I (HRIS)


Job Description:

The Senior Human Resources (HR) Information Systems Administrator I provides analytical and primary technical systems support primarily for the HR talent management information system application and additional applications that support the core talent management functions. The Senior HR Information Systems Administrator I assists in the design, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of additional talent management system modules, additional support systems, and the educational programs that support the user population. The position serves as an advocate and liaison between HR users/customers and IT analysts and vendors or other technical support for HR systems. The Senior HR Information Systems Administrator I negotiates workable solutions to complex HRIS issues with HR teams, Information Technology, vendors, and other technical support through creative uses of systems, customizations, reporting, etc.


Oversees the operations and ongoing systems administration with a focus on the talent management suite systems:

Serves as primary support for talent management system(s) and backup for non-primary systems, assisting users in how to use the system, troubleshooting, testing, and resolving issues.

Acts as first point of contact with external vendor technical team and consultants. Proactively identifies areas of concern and functional improvements.

Develops specifications for selection and implementation of system solutions surrounding the talent management and ancillary support systems.

Evaluates system performance and system functionality and documents instances for review by an HR system governance team.

Monitors and applies system enhancement requests, security settings. Establishes priorities and procedures.

Gathers/documents business requirements for change requests. Configures changes based on business requirements.

Evaluates quarterly system upgrades and determines the institutional impact.

Manages all activities related to software upgrades and integrated end-user acceptance testing, including use case scenarios, functional requirements, and test plan creation and coordination.

Designs, implements, and maintains training and user documentation for the talent management system.

Creates queries and reports using various report writers. Performs analysis of data and communicates complex ideas and results. Trains others to use various reporting tools. Develops more complex reports with difficult formulas and selection criteria. Documents process for custom reporting and serves as a resource for HR department. Works with outside vendors and IT to fulfill department reporting needs.
Excel at an advanced level, including use of macros, complicated formulas, and pivot tables.

Assumes increased responsibility and autonomy commensurate with experience and expertise resulting in a leadership role in assigned workgroup.

Manages implementation phase of talent management projects. Independently leads and/or serves as a team member for various HRIS systems projects, including selection, planning, organization, testing, training, customizations, and communication of new systems and technology solutions.

Ensures knowledge transfer occurs between team members, consultants, and end-users. Creates documentation for assigned systems and projects.

Maintains an wareness and understanding of technological advances, vendor product offerings, and issues through professional literature/associations and vendor training/conferences. Evaluates new and existing products to address customer requirements and develop recommendations.

Assumes technical lead responsibilities for the talent management system(s/span/p/li ol type

Develops detailed, functional knowledge of the application suite and data warehouse systems.

Demonstrates detailed, functional knowledge of appropriate query tools such as COGNOS, Tableau, Crystal reports, etc.

Develops functional knowledge in the integration and use of vendor tools to create user-defined data elements, custom web pages, and security rules.

Maintains the data security and data storage in the application.

Assists in design, review, and evaluation of internal and external data integrations to ensure data integrity and system optimization.

Works collaboratively with HR business process owners, developers, administrators, and HRIS staff on design specifications, and data mapping. Serves as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting production support and data discrepancies.

Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution

Job Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree is required.

Computer science or related major is preferred.

Master's degree is preferred.


Three years of experience supporting technical applications is required.

Experience with HR related systems is preferred.

Experience with Cornerstone Talent Management System is preferred.



PHR or SHRM-CP certification is preferred.


Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to learn new systems.

Work independently in identifying and resolving issues.

Read, interpret and apply complex technical documentation to drive solutions and troubleshoot.

Excellent analytical, organizational and problem solving skills, including data analysis.brDemonstrated ability to drive efforts to standardize, optimize and simplify processes and technical solutions.

Work proactively with vendors to drive solutions and maintain a strong, working relationship.

Write logical, comprehensive, concise reports and correspondence.
