Job role : System Technician

Location : Linthicum MD

Duration : 6 Months

Important Notes :

Although this position is based out of our 1015 West Nursery Road location in Linthicum MD, the technician will report daily to a new installation site at the Delaware Memorial Bridge in Wilmington DE. The Ideal candidate would be a qualified individual that resides midway between the installation site and our location on Nursery road. For example a technician that is based in Aberdeen Maryland would be preferred as it is in relative close proximity to both locations.

The Systems Technician performs as a technical expert, demonstrating specialized mastery in resolving extremely complex problems or those requiring a unique technical skill or ability to deal with sensitive aspects of trade.

The incumbent generally is a member of a quick-response customer support team and works on the most complex work orders to troubleshoot hardware/software equipment problems, and to set up, install, configure, maintain, relocate, and/or repair a variety of electronic computing and communications equipment, software and/or peripherals.

Works with extremely critical deadlines, and operates independently to resolve customer problems.

Representative Principal Duties And Responsibilities

1. Troubleshoots hardware, software and/or network operating problems. Uses basic and specialized test equipment to diagnose and analyze difficulties.

2. May troubleshoot related communications problems; e.g., in a LAN environment, applying a knowledge of wiring, standard cable connections and wire closets/MAUs. Takes appropriate corrective action, interfacing with vendor, carrier, client and Xerox’ staff as necessary.

3. Performs preventive hardware maintenance, replacement and repair (to subassembly/ component level) of computer terminals, microprocessor components, peripherals and associated/designated communications and information management equipment. May build or fabricate equipment/parts as necessary.

4. Sets up, assembles, installs, configures, reconfigures, modifies, moves and/or relocates hardware/ software at Xerox or client site for regular or special function use. Ensures upgrades are configured and installed on schedule. Uses standard hand and power tools and technical manuals. May work with multiple vendors, manufacturers, etc.

5. Maintains work order documentation, technical schematics and diagrams.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required

1. Vocational, trade school, technical training or an associate degree in electrical electronics technology, or equivalent work experience. Associate degree preferred.

2. Minimum 5-7 years progressively responsible experience, demonstrating in-depth working familiarity with a broad range of electronic equipment, including most vendors and a minimum of 3 years of mastery of a specialized technical area.

3. Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair to sub-assembly/component level and to use a variety of specialized test equipment and associated diagnostic devices. (Specifics are defined/may vary by applicable end-user area

4. Demonstrate strong administrative and organizational skills in support of the program.

5. Strong demonstrated analytical and creative problem-solving skills.

6. Basic PC literacy.

7. Good customer service orientation and appreciation of role as Client representative.

8. Maturity of judgment under pressure/ability to diagnose level of user need/distribute work effectively.

9. Considerable client and end-user interface by phone and/or in-person necessitates good (clear)
verbal communication skills and credible customer presence (appearance, attitude & demeanor

10. Flexibility and the ability to operate under stressful, time-sensitive deadlines.

11. Commitment to quality and personal ethics.

12. Ability to work independently, but as part of team concept.

Working Conditions:

Frequently works outdoors, with considerable bending, stooping, climbing, crawling and lifting (40-60 lbs, regular use of testing and diagnostic equipment.
