Position: Server and Storage Administrator

Location: Lansing, Michigan

Duration: 6+ months

Job Description:

Design, build, document, install, troubleshoot, administer and optimize i-Series enterprise systems;

Design, build, document and implement i-Series security;

Demonstrate highest technical competency in all phases of i-Series systems or applications;

Using ITIL best practices interpret, evaluate, resolve and test client inquiries or issues regarding the functional operation of system hardware and software;

Evaluate, select and apply proven techniques, procedures and criteria in making enhancements and modifications to i-Series infrastructure;

Develop and maintain interfaces to i-Series CMS;

Assist with application performance analysis;

In coordination with Service Desk and using ITIL best practices effectively identify, research, resolve and document root causes;

Ensure disaster recovery plans are tested and effective;

Participate or lead specialized projects with other functional groups as required;

Provide effective on-call technical support for CMS software issues and system problems;

Maintain and expand professional and technical knowledge;

Serve as a technical advisor and liaison within the Court, with other courts, community groups, and/or governmental agencies;

Provide high level knowledge for service desk when required to resolve customer issues;

Any other duties assigned by the Infrastructure Operations Manager.



KNOWLEDGE

IBM i-Series/Power Infrastructure and Operating Systems;

Network and web related protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP, HTTPS, routing protocols);

Cobol application programming;

ITIL Foundation Certified preferred.



ABILITY

Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Ability to facilitate working meetings, elicit and solicit information, and absorb the information being communicated;

Facilitate and communicate a shared understanding of the problem, possible solutions, and scope of the project in its entirety. Facilitate solutions to technical challenges among multiple teams when they involve negotiation between multiple business and technical stakeholders;

Evaluate multiple options before facilitating or implementing the solution to a problem. Use critical thinking skills to determine the appropriateness of requests, with periodic reviews of business procedures to clarify or change a business process. Use the knowledge gained in the daily operational procedures as input to business process and procedure documentation;

Successfully prioritize across multiple tasks in a fast paced environment. Work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines;

Work during non-standard business hours and weekends for routine maintenance and unplanned support issues.



EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related technical field or a minimum of 7 or more years of experience working in Information Technology consulting including several years in a lead or advisory roles including desktop support and server administration.



EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 7 years of progressively more responsible experience in IT Infrastructure systems.
