Job Title: Senior System Engineer Unix - AIX
Duration: 6+ months Contract
Location: Jackson, MS

Summary
The Systems Engineer is an experienced, professional, and energetic individual who will help successfully manage over 400+ AIX Unix servers and manage all AIX software installations. In addition, Systems Engineer is required to assist security with all compliance and security related tickets affecting Unix servers.

Primary Responsibilities
Maintains awareness and currency of technologies, software, program products, and hardware as related to Information Services
Installs software products by utilizing vendor information, past experience and group members’ knowledge, minimizing the business exposure due to changes in the processing environments. Evaluates the performance of installed software and hardware by utilizing available aids to monitor trends, loads and growth patterns
Resolves system problems and performance by careful analysis, debugging, identifying the root cause and applying corrective maintenance
Documents all changes following controls, procedures and documentation standards and raises issues and concerns with recommendations for follow-up action
Provides expertise in specific hardware, software, utilities, and productivity aids used by Information Services, and advises others on their use

Secondary Responsibilities
Acts in the capacity of final level in-house support, a mentor to junior staff providing guidance and technical expertise and as technical consultant to other departments within Information Services

Education and Certification
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
IBM AIX certification, knowledge of ITIL/MOF practices

Required Skills
Hands on experience with the following AIX Server Solutions, including: HMC, GPFS, LVM, Power7/Power8 Hardware
Networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, DNS, WINS, DHCP, etc. and Server virtualization technologies (especially IBM LPAR/WPAR)
IBM server and storage hardware, software and firmware, a solid understanding of server security fundamentals and server deployment methodologies and best practices
Web services Apache, Tomcat, WebLogic, WebSphere

Experience
5 years of experience working in a AIX Unix server environment including AIX 5.3, 6.1 and 7.1 operating systems

Must Have
Hands on experience with the following AIX Server Solutions, including: HMC, GPFS, LVM, Power7/Power8 Hardware
Networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, DNS, WINS, DHCP, etc. and Server virtualization technologies (especially IBM LPAR/WPAR)
IBM server and storage hardware, software and firmware, a solid understanding of server security fundamentals and server deployment methodologies and best practices
Web services Apache, Tomcat, WebLogic ,WebSphere
Virtual I/O (VIO) technology
Experience working with LPARS
o Understand how hardware is installed
o Understanding of networks
o End to End ability to install and delivery of system
o Expert in other areas:
