Client is currently seeking a Data Center Operations Engineer to become a member of a highly experienced team that works with leading-edge technology to provide innovative solutions to business challenges in the financial services industry. The Data Center Operations Engineer is primarily responsible for Data Center Operations within client’s Data Centers including risk management and mitigation, corrective and preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure, capacity planning and metric reporting. Accountable for managing the operation of data center facilities, supervision of Data Center Operations resources, resource scheduling and for the on-site management of collocation contractors, sub-contractors and vendors. Ensures all work performed is in accordance with established client’s standards, practices and procedures.

Responsibilities encompass building and supporting Data Center infrastructure, evaluating new technologies, short and long term project work and continually driving improvements in the Data Center to support exchange based trading platforms and back office business intelligence, clearing and settlement systems.

Key Responsibilities include:
Assist in providing a 24 x 7 support service to internal & external customers.
Provide first line, and where required, second line technical troubleshooting.
Direct the planning, coordination, implementation and execution of approved policies, programs and services related to Data Center services. Serve as the IT technical project lead/task manager and assist with systems implementation.
Oversee operations-related projects. Lead data center projects and activities to ensure they are delivered to meet the requirements.
Oversee repair of hardware to major component level (e.g. hard disk, NIC card, memory) across a broad range of vendor equipment.
Work with departmental managers and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize data center performance, reliability and efficiency.
Assist in the design, implementation, commissioning and build out of new facilities, including installation of racks, cable trays, wire management and provisioned power.
Installation, relocation and recovery of network, server and storage equipment and hardware to manufacturer standards and industry best practice.
Support and execute all data center capacity management for cables and hardware on behalf of the Data Center Operations team such that each item is recorded in a central database/spreadsheet.
Control data center stocks (patch cables, patch panels, connectors etc and report appropriately.
Management of the data centers, in the provision of infrastructure & inventory asset management.
Manage the goods in/out process for data center and storage facilities and keep full records for all incoming/outgoing assets and a full availability list of all items in storage.
Receipt of damaged/failed hardware and replacement through vendor Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process.
Manage asset record updates, tracking and placing assets as to their location and status (deployed, ceased etc.
Establish and maintain standards and documentation for facility operations.
Ensures activities across data center facilities follow Change Control rules and support documentation is appropriate and correct.

Organizational Structure
The Data Center Operations Engineer will report to the Director of Network Engineering.

Qualifications
Experience in managing staff to support daily operational tasks, projects/activities to ensure they are delivered on schedule and to meet the requirements. Leads and directs staff that provide IT services. Assigns work and establishes priorities. Supervises staff on performance of tasks and activities.
Awareness of environmental controls within data centers and other technical areas; temperature, humidity, power consumption and cooling.
Basic understanding of data center power, cooling and electrical systems.
Awareness of power and infrastructure management software and monitoring tools, such as Sentry Power Manager or APC StruxureWare is a plus.
Experience in structured cabling infrastructures and knowledge of copper and fiber cable plant distribution systems and industry standards.
Basic network knowledge and good experience across a broad range of IT hardware.
Basic operating system knowledge of Linux and good experience across a broad range of IT hardware.
Experience working in a regulatory environment with deep understanding of Change Control, Incident Management & Problem Management processes and procedures.
Heavy experience using Microsoft Visio or similar.
Pro-active and flexible with ability to work either as part of a team or as an individual.
Effective written and verbal communication at all levels.
Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize effectively.

Education and Experience
Design and support of large transaction infrastructure; financial or HFT network is a plus
Prior experience working in a high performance, low-latency, mission-critical environment
CDCTP or CDCMP Certification desirable or equivalent experience
Bachelor''s degree in IT/Computer Science or equivalent relative experience
