City of Seattle is undertaking a major upgrade on its PeopleSoft Financial system known as Summit Re-Implementation project. It requires changes to many enterprise systems in Seattle Public Utilities. Seattle IT is seeking a Senior Software Developer for a limited term engagement from now until May 2018 to support Seattle Public Utilities Reporting Systems along with the Summit Re-Implementation project. The Senior Developer must possess expert level report development skills using Report Studio as well as advanced experience using Cognos Framework manager. Job duties will include the analysis of existing complex reports and the re-development of these reports using a different data source. The Senior Developer must possess excellent communication skills to work effectively with business customers and the technical team – both in a team role and as an individual contributor. Prior experience working in an Oracle database environment is desired.
Job Responsibilities
Develop/Support Cognos BI solutions using Framework Manager, Report Studio, Query Studio, Workspace, Workspace Advanced, Cognos Connection.
Take on role of Cognos technical lead in design meetings with business owners.
Provide Cognos BI mentoring/training if need arises.
Ensure code and designs meet all specifications, quality, architectural and security standards.
Comply with SPU’s configuration management/version control policies.
Communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with team members and customers on technical and business tasks.
Comply with the SDLC standards and guidelines for SPU IT.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have demonstrated the following skills, knowledge, and experience working with applications systems and application systems development teams.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science Management, Engineering or related field. Advanced degree preferred. An additional six years’ experience similar to above may be substituted for education.
Experience:
o Experience building complex reports and queries using Cognos Report Studio, Cognos Workspace Advanced, Cognos Connection.
o Experience building Cognos metadata models using Framework Manager.
o Experience working in an Oracle database environment.
Desired Qualifications
o 6 years’ experience preferably developing robust code for backend development, interfaces and data warehouse ETL processes in PL/SQL or similar programming language for large, enterprise-wide IT projects in an Oracle or SQLServer environment.
o 6 years’ experience participating in the entire SDLC (requirements through implementation and close out (Experience can overlap with above requirement
o Experience in developing technical documentation, test strategies, test plans, test cases and test scripts.
o Experience with testing at various levels (unit, functional, system integration, load/performance, and support for user acceptance testing
o Demonstrated success in the area of initiative, leadership, coaching and mentoring technical staff.
