Description
Client is seeking an experienced Network Operations Manager to join our rapidly growing team. You will directly support the Subscriber Services team by assisting in deployment of fiber and wireless network equipment and managing its operation. Client prides itself in managing the entire customer experience for internet delivery to the end user, from the consumer friendly client Station Dual Band 802.11ac router which was designed in-house, to custom networking equipment allowing us to deliver gigabit speeds over existing in-home cabling, to custom in-house designed point to multipoint wireless system for the last-mile delivery of gigabit capable wireless from a pre-5G system to a residential dwelling. This position is to ensure the continuity of the bits to flow from one end to another, without restriction, and assist in restoring service as quickly as possible when an issue does occur.

What You’ll be Doing:
Work closely with the design and deployment team to bring up new sites which will range from carrier hotel fiber hubs to multiple dwelling units (MDU) to single family homes. Assist the deployment team in turn-on configuration, testing. Responsibility for operation, maintenance and growth of these sites once testing is completed.
Build a 24/7/365 network operations team to respond to network outages as escalated by the subscriber services team.
Lead network planning to analyze usage and resiliency, understand growth and work with the design and deployment team to grow and enhance existing wireless, metro and longhaul fiber, IP transit and peering circuits and POP (carrier hotel, wireless hub) locations. Document these circuits for easy access during outages, as well as for cost and capacity analysis.
Assist in architecting a multi-city network as Starry grows its deployments beyond the Boston metro area.
Participate in network operator groups such as NANOG to grow Starry’s presence, to allow for both fast resolution of carrier to carrier issues and move as much of Starry’s traffic as possible from transit to peering, to allow for the best customer experience to the end user.
Work with the Starry engineering team (which custom builds our point to multipoint wireless hardware, as well solutions for in-home data distribution) to enhance the operational abilities of its products.
Manage configuration and upgrades of off the shelf networking equipment as well as Starry custom equipment. Implement best practices in configuration and upgrade management, including managing risk of changes, while reacting quickly to outages.
Work with Starry Cloud Operations Engineering to develop new tools as needed for monitoring, management and data collection of deployed equipment.
Work with network service vendors as needed to operate the Starry network, while increasing in-house management of the network as the Network Operations team grows.
Evaluate vendors for network switching and routing, and work closely with the design & deployment team to vet and integrate with other vendors for power management, point to point wireless, and other needs.
Grow from individual contributor to group lead as a hands on manager. Engineering, design and documentation of electronic packaging for consumer and infrastructure products.
Collaborating with senior engineers on highly complex RF projects.
Creating 3-D CAD modeling, layouts, PCB outline drawings and detail/assembly drawing creation.
Building and testing prototypes which carry through to production units.
Support product development teams from concept through production phases.
Responsible for basic structural and thermal analysis, material and finish selection, with a desire to focus on analysis and design interaction.
Sourcing and procuring custom fabricated products.
Design and Environmental verification test plan development.

Experience and Education Required:
Bachelor''s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related engineering technical field, or equivalent work experience
5+ years’ experience in design and operation of high capacity networks (carrier or content provider background preferred) providing direct internet access to customers
Experience with operating a network of several 10Gbps circuits and working with the service providers who operate these circuits, including debugging outages and circuit bring-up (carrier, cross connect, MTU, fiber mismatch, etc related) required
Experience with BGP and ipv6 required. Must have operated a network with internet routing tables in the past
Experience with carrier grade hardware such as Cisco ASR, Juniper MX, or Brocade MLX required. Experience with customer edge products such as Cisco Catalyst/Nexus, Juniper EX, etc. also preferred
Experience with dark fiber circuits (long range optics, CWDM and DWDM wavelength planning) and debugging (optical light meter, OTDR output) preferred
Experience with MPLS or other large scale network (SDN, etc solutions preferred
Experience with equipment vendor and VAR selection, negotiation and project management for networking equipment (routers, switches, etc
Comfortable working in a small team or startup, and sometimes ambiguous or fluid environments
Ability to develop new and nontraditional solutions that leverage multiple technologies and methodologies (point to point and point to multipoint wireless, dark fiber, lit circuits)
Experience with Linux embedded system and/or server administration
CCNP or equivalent required. CCIE Service Provider or CCIE Route & Switch preferred
