Job Description:

EDUCATION REQUIRED: 
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 
At least 9+ years working as a Sybase DBA, some in project involving Sybase Database Upgrade and Lifecycle efforts. Excellent knowledge of various Sybase releases. Familiarity with Sybase 11 thru 15, working knowledge Project Life cycle (PMLC Strong in performance and Tuning a plus.
MSSQL Server knowledge (2012 , 2014) also required for Lifecycle efforts moving Sybase to MSSQL Server.

SKILLS REQUIRED

1. Migrating and administrating Sybase database servers, upgrading lower version to latest version of Sybase.
2. Administer, Implement, and maintain Sybase databases on UNIX platforms using Sybase admin tools.

3. Building new Sybase and MSSQL databases working as an active contributor on a Project DBA team.

3.1 Knowledge of Sybase utilities (BCP) and MSSQL Server migration assistant utilities.

4. Create professional quality operational, procedural, and standards documentation for turnover documents using Microsoft Word. Good written communication skills are required.
5. Good oral communication skills. Candidate needs to be able to speak his opinion diplomatically. Must be an active contributor to project design efforts and not simply an order taker.

7. Identify and resolve Sybase performance issues.

8. Plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously, must have good organizational skills.

ADDITIONAL JOB SUMMARY

Migrating to a MSSQL Server platform from Sybase or a Sybase upgrade of end of life versions. 

Performs data modeling, logical and physical database design based on a thorough knowledge of modeling techniques, the modeling tools available on the project, and the business functions of the subject system. Performs database administration including tasks such as loading data, managing data security and user access, performance monitoring and tuning, and all aspects of data integrity, backup, recovery, and user support. 

Plans, executes, and maintains database capacity, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery plans. Familiar with all phases of database project development lifecycle (i.e. Assists programmers to troubleshoot and tune programs in terms of efficient database usage)

Thorough knowledge of the subject DBMS, DML (SQL), DDL, utilities, services, troubleshooting, architecture, syntax, etc

Sufficient expertise with the host operating and network environments to completely provide all required functions and services including estimating and monitoring of all required hardware, coding and execution of administration jobs, and monitoring and archiving backup files
