JOB DESCRIPTION
Federate Systems is looking for a Senior SolarWinds Engineer to support one of our federal clients. Selected candidate will serve on the network monitoring team and serve as an escalation point for advanced troubleshooting / support and participate in other high-level network implementation projects. Selected candidate will interface with the project manager to develop a project plan and a project schedule. In addition, will interface with application owners and other technical specialists to develop monitoring solutions for various network devices, servers, circuits and applications. The Senior Engineer will also be expected to configure the monitoring solution to include the relationship between configuration items and to develop custom dashboards for various stakeholders.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Providing design, implementation and operational integration support of technology infrastructure projects with a primary focus on monitoring.
Providing expert-level understanding of network protocols, network devices (Routers and Switches) and monitoring tools.
Configuring HP Open View, Solar Winds or other monitoring solutions
Interfacing with application owners and technical experts from other IT areas
Developing custom reports and dashboards to display and report the operational status of monitored devices and services.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Network performance evaluation and optimization
Infrastructure Project Management
IPv6
VoIP / Unified Communications design, deployment and troubleshooting
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required; equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
At least six (6) years of Network Engineering experience is required.
Expert-level understanding of network protocols, network devices (Routers and Switches) and monitoring tools.
At least two (2) years of solid experience implementing network monitoring solutions in a large scale enterprise environment.
Experience configuring HP Open View, Solar Winds or other monitoring solutions
Experience interfacing with application owners and technical experts from other IT areas
Experience developing custom reports and dashboards to display and report the operational status of monitored devices and services.
Experience configuring HP Open View, Solar Winds or other monitoring solutions

Strong working knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite and the ability to perform troubleshooting of networks and associated devices.
Understanding of network security including Intrusion Detection, Firewalls, DMZ, Routers, VPNs, and common network level vulnerabilities.
Experience with HP Open View, BMC Atrium and/or Solar Winds
Cisco CCIE, CCNP, CCDP certification is a plus
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education.
