POSITION DESCRIPTION:


The Enterprise Architect role is responsible for leading delivery team architects and teams through business, process, and technology strategy definition, alignment, and related roadmaps. This role partners with Enterprise Architects, Business Solution Architects, Technical Architects, business partners, and external service providers to ensure new business and technical capability needs align with stated architecture strategies and Medtronic’s standards and delivery capabilities. This role also mentors other Medtronic employees to develop architecture and structure strategic planning and subject matter expertise.



Key deliverables include:

Architecture Definition Documentation (completed and reviewed)

Input to business capability models, assessments, roadmaps and technology standards and roadmaps

Enterprise solution strategy assessments across capability areas

The Enterprise Architect is a key leader in the identification of opportunities and risks with the current solution landscape, generating and leading the implementation of overarching platform strategies, directing initiatives to mitigate risk, and assisting with establishing and maintaining a governance model across the global architecture. This role will serve as a representative of the Global Architecture team to review new initiatives and provide architecture guidance and decisions regarding the viability of components, design and operationalize the landscape, and participate as required within the Architecture Review Board and Architecture Technology Governance Council to establish and maintain standards.





POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:



Demonstrate a high degree of ‘learning agility’ with the ability to readily consume and apply new information and concepts with developed analytical problem solving skills

For architecturally significant activities, ensure alignment across business & technical solution architecture design, implementation, and modification activities (e.g., across delivery teams and key process and technology leaders in those areas

Consult with technology (application, infrastructure) development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to architecture, and identify when it is necessary to modify the solution architecture to accommodate project needs.

Ensure all solution architecture design and analysis work within the Architecture Definition Document is documented and included in the architecture repositories.

Partner with other architects to analyze:

o Enterprise business drivers to determine corresponding change requirements.

o The IT environment to detect critical deficiencies, and recommend broad-based solutions for improvement.

o Technology industry and market trends, and determine their potential impact on the enterprise.

o Translate enterprise information architecture (e.g., enterprise data model, metamodel, common business vocabulary, ontologies and taxonomies), to guide enterprise solution development and achieve consistency of information assets across the application portfolio.

o Map enterprise information architecture models to package application models to determine impact or assess suitability of vendor solutions to enterprise information architecture.

"Sell" the architecture process, its outcome and ongoing results to senior leadership across Medtronic business and technology globally.

Facilitate the execution of the Solution Selection Process with business solution, data, and technology architects; ensure alignment to enterprise standard solutions and define new solutions to meet business capability needs.

Ensure adherence to the defined IT governance activities associated with the Solution Selection Policy & Procedure (i.e., architecture boards, governance councils

Identify the organizational (e.g., skills, processes, structures or culture) and financial impact of the ‘enterprise design.’

As a member of the Global Architecture organization, act as a key contributor to the enterprise reference architecture models (creation, maintenance, governance

Partner with the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) to ensure alignment of plans with broader enterprise project deliveries.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

A relevant B.A. or B.S. (or higher) degree.



YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

10+ years of IT or related experience with B.A. or B.S.; 8+ years of IT experience with M.A. or M.S.

5+ years of experience aligned to a relevant architecture discipline (integrations, data, services, infrastructure)



SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

3+ years of experience and strong knowledge of Enterprise-class architecture concepts, definition, and creation

5+ years working with data integration, exchange, and/or warehousing solutions and experience with Enterprise-class data modeling methodologies and tools

3+ years of experience in information architecture or 5+ years of experience as data analyst, business intelligence analyst, or equivalent roles

2+ years of experience with data architecture of cloud-based solutions (e.g., applications (SaaS), platforms (PaaS), and infrastructure (IaaS within an Enterprise environment

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (optional):

Advanced degree in Computer Science or business related discipline

High degree of ‘learning agility’ with the ability to readily consume and apply new information and concepts with developed analytical problem solving skills

3+ years of experience working with large enterprise ERP data models

3+ years of experience in business capability, process, technology, and data modeling

Knowledge in user experience modeling, information design, and concept generation

Certifications in architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or other service and control frameworks, such as ITIL or COBIT

Strong business acumen, decision making, and influence skills across all levels of an organization

Excellent leadership and teamwork skills

Strong communication skills, including with employees, clients, senior management and vendors

Strong results orientation (driving to deadlines, financial targets, project goals, etc

Ability to work collaboratively and partner with employees, leaders, clients, and vendors

Demonstrated ability to work in a global, virtual organization

Excellent presentation skills, including the ability to translate technical information into business terms (e.g., ability to explain complex technical solutions and architecture strategies to non-technical resources)

Technology depth and credibility with technical staff

Work experience in the Medical Device Industry, or other regulated industry

Ability to mentor and develop business, architecture, and technical resources

Able to work independently as well as cooperatively
