Job Description :

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team. This position requires expertise in formal change control environments and strong troubleshooting skills. Additionally, there is a rotation for on-call duties over the weekend, expected after an initial learning period. While overtime and weekend work are rare, any such instances must be scheduled and approved.

Our environment primarily utilizes Sybase with SQL Server, with plans to transition fully to SQL Server within the next three years. The Sybase environment runs on Solaris in an X86 hardware environment within our local network, while the SQL Server environment consists of mixed versions on mixed Windows Server platforms, including servers in Azure.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assist with Sybase 15.7 tasks, including Unix background tasks and developing CRON jobs.

Collaborate with senior DBAs on after-hours implementations and weekly data fixes.

Support SQL Server DBAs by assisting with Windows Servers, clusters, Disaster Recovery, and migration from Sybase to SQL Server.

Key Tasks Include:

Establishing and recommending database standards and policies.

Coordinating with vendor support to address technical issues.

Participating in planning to align technologies with business needs.

Designing strategies for database space allocation and capacity planning.

Installing and managing database software, patches, and security updates.

Designing and implementing database security measures.

Troubleshooting performance issues and optimizing database performance.

Documenting procedures and providing root cause analysis.

Required Skills:

Experience with Sybase ASE 15.7, Unix, CRON jobs, and command line operations.

Familiarity with SQL Server, Windows Servers, clusters, and Disaster Recovery.

Ability to research, analyze, and recommend database solutions.

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
