We are in need of an experienced iSeries Engineer for our project based services organization. This position will require up to 75% travel. The details for the position are outlined below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for implementation and configuration of simple to very complex iSeries environments. Migrations of existing environments to new hardware and implementation of external storage, virtual tape devices, HA/DR as well as backup strategies are part of position expectations. The bulk of these activities will be onsite with limited supervision. Exceptional communication skills with customers, project management and management is paramount due to the remoteness of this position. Must be a self-starter while working within a strong team environment.
Qualifications:
Required skills and experience
BA or BS degree or equivalent is required.
5-10 years of experience with core systems administration competency on the IBM i operating system platform - including OS installs, upgrades, PTF work, CL, day to day systems administration, debug and support of i/OS.
Ability to travel 50-75%.
Extensive experience and understanding of IBM Power hardware. Power Systems Hardware installs – Standing up new hardware, rack and stack, as well as existing system hardware additions (MES
Storage Configuration of iSeries DASD including RAID configuration.
Strong Save / Restore skills needed to perform system migrations.
HMC Installs / Firmware upgrades, HMC code upgrades and attaching HMC to Power Systems.
Ability to build LPARs from system plans or from existing customer environment.
Exceptional client facing skills, ability to successfully manage multiple clients.
Strong communication skills – work with Pre-Sales Engineers to ensure solution is implemented as designed, performing knowledge transfer with the customer, and to confirm implementation work conforms to customer specific change controls as needed.
Experience with iOS levels ranging from V5R4 to V7R3.
Virtual I/O (VIO) Server skills.
Preferred skills and experience
Understanding of networking and SAN environments.
Understanding of HA/DR environments (Mimix, PowerHA, etc
SAN storage (V7000, DS8000, switch configuration) on iSeries experience.
IBM or other vendor certifications.
