Profile & Description



Systems engineers maintain the computer networking system in an office environment by installing and tracking server/network activity, performing upgrades of software, maintaining computer hardware, addressing questions about technical problems, and improving efficiency by evaluating system network functions.

Reports to: Service Delivery Manager

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

· Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure

· Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools

· Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks

· Participate in the design of information and operational support systems

· Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution

· Log calls with external providers where and when necessary and effectively escalate issues needing their support

· Perform periodic preventative maintenance identified by the IT Services Coordinator

· Create and manage accounts on Active Directory

· At times may need to assist EUC Desktop team

· Quality execution of essential duties and responsibilities

· Feedback from others including staff, clients, members and vendors

Education and/or Experience Requirements:



Required:

· 1-3 years of working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX /Linux based environments or Windows environment

· Solid experience in the administration and performance tuning of application stacks

· Qualified systems engineerswill have a background in IT, computer systems engineering, or systems engineering and analysis

· Elevated experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware)

· Proven experience with monitoring systems

· Proven experience with automation software

· Solid scripting skills (e.g., shell scripts)

· Solid networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)

· Elevated knowledge of hardware components and hardware troubleshooting procedures

· Elevated Microsoft Active Directory skills including creating, deleting and modifying user accounts, setting up e-mail, home and directories

· Ability to seek solutions to problems using one’s own resources

Preferred

· Experience with supporting environments that include infrastructure elements such as LAN, WAN, WAP, Hosting

· Elevated level understanding of ITIL concepts

· Ability to monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports

· Proven ability to provide guidance and assist other Systems Engineers.

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics or related degree / work experience

· A combination of education, experience and training may be considered in lieu of a formal degree

· Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail

· Strong customer service orientation

· Elevated ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

· CompTIA, MCSA, CCNA > aligned to role

· Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus

· Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone or face to face (in English) for long periods of time

Minimum Environmental Expectations:

· This position will require working indoors. Typical workweek is eight (8) hour workdays, five (5) days per week with some weekend work, as well as longer hours as needed. This position deals with some aggressive personalities and could be stressful.
