Job Description :
*Face to Face interview required

Team building innovative applications in the area of catastrophe risk modelling using modern technologies, practices, and tools such as Golang, React, D3, Git, etc. Client coordinates a network of 20+ research institutions that provide scientific information on natural hazards and risk around the world. Client uses this information to advise our reinsurance and insurance clients on financial risk arising from these catastrophes. Client deploys its knowledge and advice through modern internet-based web systems in addition to providing traditional consulting services. Client is also heavily involved in the design of parametric insurance solutions, such as CAT bonds and other Insurance-Linked Securities. The candidate will work closely with our colleagues to support execution and deployment of these activities and products through advanced web applications.

This consultant must have previously worked in or have knowledge of the following Industries:
Industry #1: Reinsurance
Industry #2: Insurance
Industry #3: Financial Services


Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain our system of web applications
Communicate with analyst teams to ensure their needs are understood and met
Communicate technical concepts, methods and results to technical & non-technical audiences
Perform code reviews, design reviews, testing, refactoring
Design the visual aspect of our pages, GUIs, and graphics
Develop critical understanding of risk modelling methodologies
Design and implement methodologies for evaluating catastrophe risk models
Meet with clients and colleagues to present our tools and products
Qualifications and Education/Experience Requirements
A degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or similar technical subject
Some industry experience
Candidates with other backgrounds will be considered, as long as they can prove their expertise
Knowledge of several programming languages would be a plus but is not required.
Preferable languages include, but not limited to C or C++; Golang, React, D3, Git, etc. (programming skills will be tested during the interview process)
Knowledge of web development fundamentals: HTTP, CSS, JavaScript
Must be comfortable working in a Linux environment and using open source tools
Provable ability to solve technical problems and communicate clearly
Excellent analytical skills
Provable ability to problem solve and communicate clearly (candidates will be asked to deliver a 15 minute presentation on a topic of their choosing followed by a Q&A from the team)
Excellent writing skills and documentation discipline (samples of brief technical articles/papers may be submitted for the interview, if available)
Scientific curiosity and eagerness to learn about the application of science in insurance
Interest/experience in sysadmin, devops, monitoring. and relational databases, all a plus
Additional Qualifications
MUST be organized and have a strong ability to focus on and pay strict attention to detail.
Strong analytic skills for constant review of complex code, data, and scientific information.
Thorough knowledge of insurance/reinsurance concepts.
Thorough knowledge of programming concepts.
Solid ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc
Strong verbal and writing skills for internal communications
High degree of initiative to take lead role one their own and within team and to manage work to completion.
Ability to find creative solutions to new problems as they arise.
Strong ability to work cooperatively with others.
Ability to work with the team in manager’s absence without direction.
