Position Description
Our client’s Wide Area Networking unit is looking for a qualified network engineer to assist in a number of projects involved in upgrading the existing WAN architecture. These upgrades are necessary to improve the capacity, resiliency, flexibility and security of the WAN to meet existing and future requirements. This engineer will perform technical analysis, support and troubleshooting, provide technical and input to decision makers and provide general systems engineering support with regard to the existing WAN architecture and the migration to new architectures. The network engineer will assist in the planning, implementation, and support of these new architectures. The ideal candidate will have significant network experience with emphasis on Cisco products and routing protocols.

Experience Required
Minimum 7 years experience with utilizing Cisco hardware platforms including Cisco IOS, IOS-XE and ISO-XR OS’s
Minimum 7 years experience with troubleshooting and configuring VLANs, Layer 2 Port-Channel, DOT 1Q trunks, VPCs and general Data Link layer
Minimum 7 years experience with tools and techniques requiring knowledge of SNMP, NetFlow, QoS and Syslog. ISR and ASR routers, Cisco switching, Nexus, FWSM, ASA 55xx, application and load balancing technologies

Skills Required
Wide Area Network Engineer with strong Cisco routing skills using EIGRP and BGP protocols
Experience in planning and Implementing a backup solution for existing EVPL WAN using DIA – (Direct internet access) with IPSEC/DMVPN tunnels to provide backup links and offloading of guest access using same DIA at branch locations
Ability to troubleshoot and configure VLANs, Layer 2 Port Channel, Dot 1Q trunks, VPCs and general Data Link layer issues
Ability to comprehend industry standard network topologies, best practices, deviations, technical standards and the ability to explain in a clear manner
Ability to support existing infrastructure using established tools and techniques requiring knowledge of SNMP, NetFlow, QoS and Syslog
Understanding of ISP business practices and AAS-type offerings including cloud hosting, co-hosting, infrastructure and security as a service
Experience with configuration and maintenance of Cisco networking equipment: ISR routers (1900, 2800, 2900, 3800, 3900, 4300, 4400), ASR 1000 and ASR 9000 aggregation routers
Experience with configuration and maintenance of Cisco switching: Nexus 5000, 7000, Catalyst 6500

Education Required
4-year college degree or equivalent technical study with advanced study preferred

Skills Preferred
Expert level knowledge of Cisco IOS platform
Ability to document and diagram technologies deployed and to develop documentation for any new initiatives prior to deployment or purchases
Ability to effectively communicate changes the in-house change management system. Understanding of network policies and procedures surrounding general network operation optimization/ best practices and to establish new policies if none exist
