Role: VOIP Engineer/Architect
Location: Columbus, OH
Duration: 9 months +

The VoIP Engineer/Architect’s role is to develop and coordinate strategies, projects, and activities for defining, deploying, and maintaining in-house IP telephony voice communication architecture and its associated network connections and component hardware. This includes leading all engineering projects for VoIP initiatives, planning technology roadmaps, and configuring and optimizing all VoIP/IP-PBX telephone systems and services.

Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
Design and support Cisco VoIP infrastructure and its associated software, including IP-PBXs, call management systems, voice mail, call distribution, interactive voice response and SIP trunks.
Monitor current capacity, report and design for scalability.
Select, deploy, and use appropriate tools for reporting and routing of IP telephony traffic on the network.
Acquisition & Deployment
Migrate legacy PBX to Cisco VoIP
Collaborate with systems engineers/architects for upgrades to operating systems, hardware, etc.
Remain current on new transport protocols, products, and standards in support of VoIP systems development and equipment procurement.

Operational Management
Integrate IP telephony systems with enterprise LANs, WANs, wireless LANs, and other Internet-based services and protocols.
Provide leadership for implementing new VoIP products or services, as well as the technical resources required to manage them.
Collaborate with help desk to resolve trouble tickets and mitigate end-user issues with VoIP hardware and/or applications.
Perform telephony audits as necessary.
Maintain SLAs for all organizational IP telephony applications
Train and mentor junior engineers and other members of the telecommunications department.
Monitor and identify capacity and performance issues for VoIP traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of telephony systems.
Collaborate with network engineers or administrators to ensure that VoIP traffic does not interfere with or hinder network data traffic.
Conduct testing and development disaster recovery plans to detect faults, minimize malfunctions, and back up systems. Position Requirements:

Formal Education & Certification
BS degree in the field of telecommunications or computer science and 5 or more years equivalent work experience.
Certifications CCNA, CCNP Collaboration and CTP preferred.

Skills and Experience
Working technical knowledge of Cisco VoIP/IP telephony systems, software, and hardware.
Strong hands-on knowledge of the configuration and optimization of Cisco VoIP equipment.
Strong hands-on knowledge of SIP, H.323, TCP/IP, MGCP, SCCP protocols.
Strong understanding VoIP QoS issues and mitigation strategies.
Direct experience with Cisco switches and routers.
Knowledge of cabling and wiring systems, design, and installation.
Ability to operate tools, components, peripherals, and testing accessories.
Self-starter and client oriented
Committed team player, able to work both independently and interact with non-technical audiences
Proven results orientation and accountability
Very good communication skills, both oral and written
