VMWare Admin
Duration - 6 months
Location - Palo Alto

Responsibilities -
Design, implement and maintain virtual infrastructure solutions based on VMware
Help perform day-to-day administration, operation, and support of University IT Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.
Help onboard new VDI clients and ensure customer satisfaction
Help manage the groups VDI infrastructure including ESX hosts, storage, network, desktops, zero clients, etc.
Help manage group’s print and file servers
Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve PC, Thin/Zero-client, Virtual Desktop and Mac hardware and software problems, including OS, network connectivity, file sharing, printing, and basic application functions
Migrate users from older platforms to newer ones while maintaining data/settings
Maintain equipment inventories and schedules for upgrades/replacements
Investigate and test new tools, systems, techniques and software products for possible use in client areas requiring integration with departments and/or University systems
Plan and organize required IT support around space moves, redeployments of equipment, and disposal of technical hardware and software
Write and support scripts to automate and maximize the delivery of end user related needs
Maintain support standards and procedures documentation
Assist with the administrative support (e.g., account maintenance, permissions, print queue, patching) of Windows Servers and other task as assigned
Stay current with University information system/desktop standards and initiatives
Monitor security advisories for physical and virtual desktops, and take appropriate actions to safeguard resources
Participate in projects to develop, implement, and manage network security policies, plans, and procedures, including security architectures, firewall policies, intrusion detection systems, security datollection systems, and integrated security products
Participate in establishing, reviewing and maintaining University information security policies and procedures; works closely and cooperatively with other University staff members involved with information security and privacy issues; participates in ensuring security compliance with governmental regulatory requirements
Monitor and ensure proper system firewall rules and security on the local network
Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation in support of University IT Virtual Desktop infrastructure
Adhere to all University IT policies and standards for employee time and leave tracking
Conform with all University IT project tracking and issue tracking policies and procedures
Skills and Competencies
In-depth knowledge of VMware VDI Technologies including Horizon View
In-depth knowledge of VMware ESX technology 3.5-6.0 VMware View
In-depth knowledge of Windows server Technology
Extensive experience with virtual desktop deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and fix software, hardware, and networking problems
Demonstrated ability to work calmly, professionally, and with attention to detail with a wide variety of staff and clients under pressure situations
Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the human factors involved in introducing information technology into the office
Demonstrated customer service skills
Ability to write and maintain documentation and procedures
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a team

Relevant Work Experience
In-depth experience with administration of virtualization technologies particularly VMware View required
Broad experience with VMware ESX (versions 3.x, 4.x and 5.x)?
