Position: SOLR Search Engine Developer

Position Summary:
Most candidates would be a strong Java developer with at least a minimum of 3 years of SOLR experience.
Position Description
Candidates must have a solid development experience in a high volume environment, with Java and the Apache SOLR search platform, specifically Solr Cloud mode for eCommerce.
Responsibilities will be to continually fine-tune the SOLR installation to optimize search relevance, increase revenue and to eventually develop customized solutions for the SOLR search engine used by the web site.
Experience with SOLR Master/Slave replication implementations or Solr Cloud understanding of consuming RESTful APIs and the ability to write & document clean and efficient code.
Key Technologies / Framework: Java, J2EE, SOLR, Zookeeper
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Advise and guide the development team on best practices in search while also being hands on working with Java and SOLR.
Work with large and variable data sets.
Increase the performance and availability of the search application.
Work with search analysts & the product content team to identify metadata to help improve search relevance.
Create and maintain a variety of SOLR collections such as: items, interaction data, orders, invoices, type ahead, etc
Supporting applications using complex indexes and multiple page searches.
Provide assistance to Content, Architecture and Infrastructure Teams to understand search relevancy and how indexes are developed and maintained.
Suggest methods to help reduce index creation times.
Position Requirements
3-5 years of SOLR/SOLR Cloud experience working on Enterprise Search solutions
Ability to design, create and manage shards and indexes for SOLR.
Ability to write efficient search queries against SOLR indexes using SOLR REST/Java API.
Prototype and demonstrate new ideas of feasibility and leveraging SOLR capabilities.
Troubleshoot SOLR indexing process and querying engine.
Identify, clarify, resolve issues and risks, escalating them as needed
Ability to Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other junior team members if needed.
Excellent collaboration/teamwork skills.
Assist the Development Manager in project planning, tasks and timeline determination for SOLR deliverables.
PLUSES for this SOLR Engineer
Direct experience with high-availability website technologies such as Hybris, Oracle, MySQL.
Hands on development experience using Linux, Bitbucket, Bamboo and JIRA during software development life cycle.
Experience with agile development tools and processes.
