About the position:
As a Senior UX/UI Designer, you will be involved in every aspect of the product development process, from supporting conceptualizing of ideas to tweaking pixels right before launch. Working closely with product managers and engineers — you will have a strategic role in defining the experience across our portfolio of products.



Location:

Chicago, IL or Fort Washington, PA

Duration:

6 months. May be extended based on performance and client needs.



Job Description / Responsibilities:

Apply design methods to translate user needs into intuitive interfaces.

Create mockups and clickable prototypes for web and mobile apps.

Work with design and development teams.

Maintain consistency of interactions across all products.

Conceptualize architectures, flow diagrams, and UI specifications.

Work on multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to prioritize effectively.

Manage complicated projects from start to finish.

Simplify complex content and ideas into functional, usable interfaces

Ensure existing UI guidelines and standards are followed during the development and maintenance of the product

Ability to quickly prototype clear, usable designs

Create and Translate low fidelity wireframes/UX prototypes into effective and appealing interfaces

Proactively recognize UX/UI gaps in design and propose solutions

Conduct and/or participate in product usability tests with users

Participating in research and user strategy for a growing education platform



Job Requirements:

Minimum of 8 years of proven UI design experience.

Firm understanding of responsive design and usability

Expert knowledge of typography and layout principles.

Advanced Sketch and Adobe Creative Suite skills. Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator; Zeplin, inVision, Axure and wire-framing tools or similar tools

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction Design or equivalent

Strong portfolio that illustrates abductive reasoning and problem-solving skills as well as an exceptional eye for detail in final products and interaction design.

Excellent visual design skills with solid understanding of human factors and its implications to UI design.

Experience in data visualization is a big plus.

Mastery of user-centered design principles and cross-platform, multi-channel development processes (responsive design

Work in Agile environment.

Solid expertise in creating wireframes (low and high-fidelity) storyboards, journey maps, user personas, process diagrams and site maps.

Strong time management skills and the ability to be self-directed as needed.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to present a thought-out rationale for design decisions.

Experience gathering user feedback



Additional Requirements:



Experience with:

Current trends for UX/UI design and data visualization

Agile and/or Scrum development methods

Conducting or managing usability tests to validate design

Managing style guides and pattern libraries for large, complex projects



Other Desirable Skills/Experience:

Knowledge and appreciation of the advances in higher educational software, course materials, and digital publishing is a plus

Background and/or experience in educational technology and/or publishing

Comfort and/or experience in a startup environment
