Job Description:
It’s a big role so anyone who has significant experience in a number of the key areas will be considered. For this position we would like to emphasize the tech support aspect along with a strong general Unix Admin background.
Clearcase and SCM generally are nice to have, but it is not expected and can be learned by someone with an open mind. DevOps and Jenkins are also listed, but they are more of a plus.
You might notice the word investigation appearing in multiple places, curiosity and perseverance are also key soft skills for us. Occasional off-hours support may be required to support the following activities.
We value all the qualifications on the list, however we need a different mix to make sure the team has the right combination of skills and primary activities.
Tech Support – 1st, 2nd and 3rd line
First Line / Call triage
Taking phone calls, screening emails
Creating call and incident records in IT incident management system.
Development Environment Support
First line support for Wind River Workbench, Code Collaborator, Team Center, Test Arena
First and second line support of Solaris and RedHat Linux issues.
Filing and following up on incident reports filed with other teams for the above
Clearcase Support – Can learn ClearCase on the job as long as candidate has good experience with other SCM system.
Dealing with day-to-day ClearCase issues and questions
Dealing with day-to-day UNIX tooling issues and questions
Investigating build failures related to tooling – distinguishing the preceding from developer errors.
Answering questions about how tooling/patches/integration works
Unix Admin (RHEL and Solaris)
Unix and other account management
Help setup developer UNIX accounts
Setup UNIX accounts as requested by other sites’ developers
Helping diagnose account issues of all types and follow up with account teams to ensure they are fixed.
Unix administration and support
Supporting users on general UNIX usage – simple UNIX command set
Monitoring cron job results, investigating failures/error messages
Fileserver share access/free space support
Shell/Perl/Python script debugging/investigation
RHCSA Qualification or equivalent a plus.
Integration – Can learn on the job with good theory of SCM knowledge
Clearcase stream creation and management
Clearcase stream support
Clearcase stream delivery
General integration workflow support – explaining to users, helping design flows in non-standard situations.
DevOps (Jenkins + our custom RHEVM based tooling and ClearCase)
Support existing DevOps framework – Jenkins + custom tooling
Help design / buildout of desired DevOps tooling
Integrate CI/CT with existing infrastructure / custom tooling
Tooling migration from development to production environments
Web frontend dashboard development/support – JavaScript + python
Use of SQL databases
