The role of the Release Manager is critical to the planning and execution of the Release Management processes and governance. The purpose of Release Manager is to plan, manage, and co-ordinate all changes to the production environment; establish, track and report metrics utilizing ITSM, Clarity and ChaRM; provide release oversight and capacity monitoring to ensure the businesses top priorities are being addressed; and provide expertise in implementing best practices for configuration management. The Release Manager will also be expected to champion process improvements, ensure timely and accurate communications to business liaisons and ensure communication between teams as work progresses through the release.
The SAP Release Manager will be responsible for the successful completion of all of the release management related activities in support of the Department of Treasury’s SAP system used for Business Tax Revenue. This includes the planning, preparation, implementation, and post implementation support to ensure each activity is completed to plan. The Release Manager will lead all Release Planning activities and work closely with Resource Managers and Development leads to forecast capacity and schedule work into releases, including application updates, operating system patches, security improvements, hardware upgrades
The SAP Release Manager responsibilities include the following:
To act as the ‘Gatekeeper’ to the Production environment. Nothing should pass into production without the Release Manager final approval.
Act as a liaison to the Change Approval Board to provide input into the decision making process, input into prioritization across taxes, impact assessments, release process capacity information, etc.
Work closely with the client to understand and prioritize work for future releases
Ensure work planned in a release meets all release criteria and is appropriately analyzed and resourced.
Define, maintain and communicate the detailed plan for each release.
Provide timely and accurate communications and status to business liaisons on the status of critical tickets
Own the Release Management process and checkpoint signoffs.
Approve the release into pre-production and production environments.
Collaborate with Resource Managers to conduct work fit and resource allocation processes and maintain the release plans
Provide timely and accurate metrics to the DTMB SAP Project Manager
