JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Technical Architecture Specialist is responsible for creating and maintaining information technology architecture and policy artifacts. The position functions as the single point-of-contact for all information technology architecture and policy customer service, including waivers. The architecture and policy framework is the practical instrument for both information technology cost-optimization, as well as realizing the CIO’s forward vision, and this position owns that framework.
Besides in-depth information technology knowledge and exemplary communication skills, this position also demands tact and diplomacy to advance architecture and policy in the face of day-to-day operational expediency. The position reports to the acting Enterprise Architect.
This resource is needed to create and maintain information technology architecture and policy artifacts, and to provide associated customer service, including the policy waiver process. If this work is not performed, policy and architecture artifacts fall out of maintenance. This jeopardizes I.T. contracts, because all of them incorporate OIT policies. Beyond I.T. contracts, this also negatively affects audit compliance, and customer satisfaction.
The current Acting Enterprise Architect is serving in a dual role, by performing the functions previously performed by two separate people. As a result, existing policy and architecture artifacts are increasingly falling out of maintenance and new policy implementations efforts have been dramatically slowed.
REPRESENTATIVE TASKS: (A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned
Maintain architecture and policy artifacts, including the version-control of legacy, current, and in-process releases.
Maintain the architecture and policy websites, both on the Internet and the Intranet.
Administer the enterprise-wide vetting workflow of architecture and policy artifacts, reconciling diverse and competing feedback, brokering win-win compromises, and actually advancing the organizations architecture and policy framework. (This demands substantial diligence and diplomacy
Own all messaging and socialization with regard to architecture and policy artifacts.
Own the continuous “evergreening” of architecture and policy artifacts.
Elicit and respond to stakeholder demand for new/modified architecture and policy artifacts. (Again, this demands substantial diligence and diplomacy
Track waivers.
Liaise with waiver recipients with regard to fulfilling the provisos of conditional waivers.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: (These are required to successfully perform the work assigned
· In-depth knowledge of information technology fundamentals.
· In-depth knowledge of information technology industry best practices.
· Some familiarity with Federal and State laws related to information technology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
· Ten (10) years of practical experience in information technology, preferably in architecture and policy.
· A master's degree in computer science or equivalent may be substituted for one (1) year of practical experience.
