Job Overview:The Tax Manager is responsible for managing the Tax and Compliance departments of the practice. The ideal candidate will assist in all areas of the practice and will help drive the growth of the Firm. The Tax Manager will oversee and review complex tax preparation, tax research and tax planning with minimal supervision. This position also provides work direction and technical guidance to less experienced staff. The Tax Manager will direct and oversee timely communications between the team and clients to resolve tax issues. The Tax Manager will engage in tax planning for clients and supervise staff in the effective execution of those strategies. As such, the Tax Senior is expected to possess exceptional communication skills allowing for relationship building at all levels and must be able to work independently and in teams to accomplish a goal.Tax Manager - Objectives:Technical Knowledge:Oversees tax compliance engagements from start through completionDirects the preparation of complex tax returns and reviews work of tax accountantsConducts tax research to develop efficient and effective tax planning strategies for clients (e.g., S-corp, Partnerships, 1040, estate, trust)Identifies areas of Federal and/or State tax laws that can save / defer taxes, monetize dead assets, and earn tax credits for existing clients and targeted industriesPerforms research on technical issues and provides relevant professional development training for the tax team where applicableApplies advanced problem solving, research and analysis skills independentlyCommunication:Builds and maintains positive relationships with firm associates, clients and client personnelUnderstands detailed assignments and follows instructionsCommunicates proactively and effectively – both in writing and orallyMaintains necessary confidentially with all client and firm informationTax Manager - QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university with a valid, current CPA certificationMinimum of 5-7 years of public accounting experience as a tax accountant, demonstrating a progression in complexity in the review and preparation of all forms and schedules related to corporations, S-corporations, partnerships and individual tax returnsStrong computer application skills – proficient in MS Office, Quickbooks, Pro-Series tax program or other equivalent tax software, etc.Strong verbal, written communication and organization skillsStrong analytical, research and critical thinking skillsEntrepreneurial spirit with a strong work ethic and “do whatever it takes” mindsetCandidates are required to successfully complete a background check
