Position Description:
ITI/RRS Position Duties: The Linux engineer will be responsible for planning, development, implementation and maintenance of the overall integration of the computing platform, e.g. hardware, systems software, operating systems, and storage for hosts and/or clients running the Linux operating system in support of the Next Generation Datacenter project.
This individual will switch positions in 6-9 months to move to operations to help support some of the solutions that are engineered for Next GEN Data Center project.
Skills Required:
Key responsibilities:
-Build, test and certify the Linux operating system against a variety of HP X86 hardware.
-Plan and implement configuration of software and/or hardware, e.g. SAN, client, and host on one or more platforms.
-Support team in development of next generation patching model at Ford.
-Experience with container technology.
-Create automation to assist in infrastructure provisioning, L3 support and capacity management.
-Provide support and problem resolution activities for system hardware, software, and/or operating systems; acting as L3 support for the Linux OS.
-Lead and direct the development of support guidelines -Build, test and certify virtualization technologies for the Linux operating system.
-Provide development and L3 support for Ford built highly available automation.
-Be a thought leader in moving Ford towards cloud computing concepts like CI/CD pipelines and DevOPS -Help define Day 2 support models for NextGEN DC services
Position Qualifications: -Performs at an extremely high level of technical competence and maturity. -Ability to communicate effectively with application developers.
-Ability to be a self-starter, looking for improvements to processes and business offerings.
-Ability to clearly explain technical issues in a non-technical fashion -Ability to create complex, technical documentation for operational use
-Ability to handle multiple complex projects at one time.
Technical Qualifications: -6+ years of experience with Linux system administration
-Experience working in a server operations role for a large heterogeneous environment
-General infrastructure knowledge, e.g., SAN, network, database, and server hardware -Good Communication Skills and ability to utilize desktop tools to accelerate communications (Wikis, IM, WebEx, etc
-Experience with Java, Javascript, HTML, Perl
-Experience with Chef and Puppet
-Experience with SUSE Manager

Education Required:
B.S. Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent work experience in the requested field
