The role of the Microsoft Senior Systems Engineer is to provide high quality, professional consulting services in planning and implementing a secure, reliable and standardized Microsoft Server 2016 operating environment.
The consulting services will entail assisting in architecting solutions, defining standards, developing build documentation, performing product installation, testing, troubleshooting, providing knowledge transfer, writing status reports, runbooks and other documentation for services performed.
Job Responsibilities:
* Candidate will be will be involved with planning, designing, and transforming on-premises environments with an eye on the future to use the cloud. The candidate will work closely with stakeholders to gather technical requirements, architect solutions, document accordingly and execute on deliverables.
* Work on cross functional project teams and develop solutions to optimize applications and improve the overall project success and end user experience.
* Create operational and engineering documentation for future state of solutions for the Windows Server environment.
Technology / Microsoft Product Knowledge
A thorough understanding and delivery capability in the following areas of expertise is required:
* Microsoft Windows server 2016 standard and datacenter
* In-depth knowledge and experience with Windows System Enterprise System Sizing based upon system workloads.
* In-depth knowledge and experience with Capacity Planning concepts.
* In-depth knowledge and experience with defining disk IO and layout technical requirements based upon system workloads for storage teams.
* In-depth knowledge and experience with High Availability Concepts for Windows Server Environments.
* Excellent track record of working with Microsoft SQL DBAs building enterprise infrastructure solutions to match business and technical requirements.
* Microsoft server operating system installation, customization and administration.
* Has a strong, well founded opinion on what makes for solid windows system engineering for an organization.
* VMware vSphere basic administration.
* Automated deployment of Microsoft O/S images and automated patching
Skills and Competencies:
* Redhat Enterprise Linux Skills (RHEL 7.x) knowledge and experience for similar capabilities and responsibilities to the above Windows skills is a big plus.
* Prior exposure to Windows Security Hardening practices following baselines such as those from the Center for Internet Security (CIS) or similar.
* Prior exposure to Windows Performance Tuning concepts.
