POSITION OBJECTIVES: To analyze multi-user server hardware requirements and develop specifications and standards which support selected software solutions; to provision, configure, install, support and maintain appropriate replication and backup of physical and virtual servers, storage systems, and associated operating systems and core software components; and to communicate in a team oriented environment in accordance with the vision, mission, and values of the Cooperative.
MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Requires Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field. Prefers professional certifications directly related to the technologies in use at Jackson EMC. Prefers RHCT and MCSA credentials.
EXPERIENCE: Requires a minimum of the most recent five (5) years of experience in systems administration and data center infrastructure, including Unix/Linux and Microsoft server operating systems, scripting, storage area network management, and server virtualization.
KNOWLEDGE: Requires solid working knowledge of server systems administration and specific knowledge should include Unix/Linux and Microsoft operating systems, data storage systems, and hypervisor virtualization software similar to that in use at the cooperative. Requires knowledge of scripting languages and techniques to automate repetitive or scheduled tasks. Require ability to pursue a continuous program of self-development both inside and outside of work hours in furthering his/her knowledge to develop in the job and accept increasing responsibilities.
SKILLS: Require effective leadership skills, excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work in a team environment. Requires the ability to effectively configure, deploy, and maintain data center infrastructure, associated operating systems, and security protocols in use at Jackson EMC. Requires the ability to monitor daily activity, troubleshoot, and resolve server and/or storage problems. Requires the ability to document the physical and logical server/storage environment. Prefers fluency in Unix/Linux, VMware, and Xenserver.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS AND CONDITIONS:
Reports to: Director, IT Infrastructure and Data Integrity
Directs: none
Internal: Actively participates within the Cooperative team environment to develop supportive relationships essential to the success of the functions of this position, achieving the results expected and encouraging throughout the organization the concepts of teamwork and cooperative spirit.
External: Develops and maintains supportive relationships with member/consumers, the general public, and other external contacts to assure positive results.
This position is primarily sedentary work; requires visual acuity in machine operation with inspection; requires ability to hear, talk, repetitive motions; and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provision, configure and install systems hardware and software as related to IT infrastructure to support technology initiatives of the cooperative.
2. Provide server asset management services, including maintenance of a server component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
3. Maintain server hardware and storage systems in primary and backup data centers. Maintain data center environmental and monitoring systems to ensure reliability.
4. Perform daily system monitoring and validate the integrity and availability of all server resources, systems, and scheduled jobs.
5. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully replicated to provide for recovery in the event of system failure or data loss.
6. Perform regular security monitoring to identify possible intrusions.
7. Maintain server and system peripherals, settings, directories, permissions, storage, etc in accordance with standards and project or operational requirements.
8. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
9. Manage virtual server environments and configure new services as necessary or as directed.
10. Attend training sessions as necessary or as directed to maintain up-to-date knowledge of computer hardware and system software.
11. Notify immediate supervisor of equipment malfunctions and suspected malfunctions or deficiencies that may affect data integrity, availability, or server performance.
12. Maintain and promote a high level of awareness regarding cyber threats from both internal and external sources. Promote and comply with cybersecurity policies and best practices.
13. Be familiar with and follow the best safety practices set forth in the Cooperative’s Safety Manual.
14. Attend and participate in annual meeting as required or directed.
15. Perform such other duties as may be required or directed.
