Overview:
Our client is in need of a Systems Administrator - Unix/Linux. There is not one specific “project” the individual will be working on. More of the daily support and administration of the existing Backup and Storage systems. We recently just completed our migration to an updated (hardware and software) Spectrum Protect backup system. For the most part this new system should just need daily support and administration for quite some time. The daily support includes ensuring backups complete successfully, open cases with IBM support as needed, application patching and upgrades as needed. On the Storage side we are just finishing up a data migration from an older disk platform, IBM XIV, to a newer platform, IBM A9000. This project should be completed around mid-March. After that is completed we will focus on the daily support and administration on these systems as well (provisioning disk, switch upgrades, daily maintenance

Primary Responsibilities:
Supporting and administering Spectrum Protect application (running on AIX platform)
Monitor/alert on failed backups and resolve issues
Install software updates, code, BIOS and firmware updates on SP servers as needed
Work with Server Administrators to assist with troubleshooting backups
Secondary Responsibilities:
Storage administration on IBM A9000/XIV/V7000/V5000/DS series platforms
Fiber Channel connected SAN
Disk provisioning
Code updates, BIOS and firmware updates as needed
Troubleshooting disk performance issues
Individual will rotate with other team members to periodically work on-call shift work as scheduled and as necessary to provide customer support on a 24 x 7 basis.
Required Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree
At least 3 years of current and progressive work experience using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager/Spectrum
Protect.Storage Systems Administrator experience (current and progressive)
In addition to the required technical competencies, the individual must also possess strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
Be able to work well with a variety people and possess strong communication skills as needed to mentor others and communicate highly technical information to non-technical and technical users.
Individual must also be able to work in a deadline intensive work environment and possess the organizational and multi-tasking skills needed to manage projects, organize work and meet deadlines.
