Profile
The Strategic Business Analyst is responsible for helping the customer define the “what and why” during the strategic planning and ideation phase for a given organizational unit or program. Provides recommendations pertaining to the projects that the business group should perform, as well as relevant and timely corrections to the business processes and structure of business information. Aligns strategic goals with key business decisions regarding products and services; partners and suppliers; organization; capabilities; and key business and IT initiatives. Primary focus includes understanding business stakeholders, motivations, problems and operations.
The Strategic Business Analyst (SBA) is a leadership role that interacts with service line leadership to identify business needs and solutions within the context of the overall direction of the service line and the firm. The SBA provides oversight to ensure that critical business solutions meet the business needs and objectives that are expected through information gathering, synthesis, software purchase, custom development, review and testing. The scope of a strategic business analyst''s work can cover software development and acquisition, systems development, and process improvement. They also require powerful motivational and communication skills to successfully interact with a variety of project stakeholders who may have competing interests. They must be able to size up a business and develop a rapport with others quickly.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.
Facilitate the definition of business needs and problems, create business objectives, drive to high-level initiative objectives which can then move ultimately to oversight of delivery.
Demonstrate a depth of knowledge of their assigned business line’s practices and workflows within the Information Technology organization; communicate to the technology ecosystem key information on these interrelationships.
The ability to apply architectural principles, methods, and tools to business challenges.
The ability to visualize and create high-level models (rigorous information-rich diagrams) that can be used in future business analysis of project execution
Experience developing and using these high-level models as required to collect, aggregate or disaggregate complex and conflicting information about the business into people/process/technology roadmaps as needed.
Guide business leaders and support strategic planning of business direction based on an understanding and analysis of business problems, objectives and risks.
Generate new business solutions and/or processes to increase efficiency and maximize business value.
Facilitate ideation discussions and advance elicitation activities through Due Diligence, RFPs, Discovery and actual project delivery
Determine the impact of new initiatives on existing people/process/technology resources or processes.
Provide direction to IT delivery teams to ensure solutions provide business value.
Qualifications & Requirements
A preferred deep business knowledge of Client as a whole, and within an assigned service line.
4-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies and governance.
The ability to draw conclusions or determine impacts across multiple and varied projects, programs, services lines or processes and articulate their collective relevance.
The ability to anticipate business risks and develop contingencies well in advance of impact.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Must be a team player able to work effectively at all levels of an organization with the ability to influence others to move toward consensus.
Must be highly reliable, trustworthy, honest, and commitment oriented.
Strong situational analysis and decision making abilities.
Strong ability to ‘see’ across business and technology areas to bring the pieces together in analyzing, solutioning and problem solving.
Extensive practical experience in system development life cycle (SDLC), application development and/or solution delivery.
Strong ability to manage change and cope with complex and ambiguous situations.
Understands current technology trends and process quality methodologies and how these can be applied to the business partner’s business.
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to the Client Business Technology Leader associated with the assigned business unit.
