Position: Sr. VMWare Engineer
Location: Tampa, FL
Full Time
This position will involve working in a team environment involving frequent collaborative efforts with the Director of Network, Open Systems, and Telephony Services. The VMWare Engineer will have overall responsibility for the administration of the Open Systems components of the IT data center. This person will be responsible for all related critical service levels, delivery of troubleshooting and problem resolution in accordance with Service Levels covering the standard hardware, software platforms and approved application portfolio.
The VMWare Engineer will evaluate and ensure maximum performance and availability is provided from every aspect of the server infrastructure, will design, install, maintain, and support corporate and production environments
The successful candidate will have a strong technical acumen with a deep knowledge of the fundamentals of VMware ESX, cloud migrations, and related technologies. In addition, the candidate should have a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment.
VMWare and related technology administration with a focus on high availability and scalability of architectures. Manage the Virtual Infrastructure running VMware ESXi 5.x and 6.x
Configure and setup VMware hosts running ESXi 5.x and 6.x
Build, configure, and troubleshoot Windows Servers 2003, 2008, and 2012
Experience creating and monitoring security dashboards, analyzing existing running assets in cloud and on premise environments.
Build and maintain the Development and Production container and cloud environment.
Docker, Kubernetes, ELK, AWS, GCP, Ansible/Terraform, PowerShell, Jenkins, Python/Bash, VMWare, Hyper-V, CentOS/RHEL, etc
Develop server solutions and implement within a complex virtual environment
Requirements:
Extensive experience (8+ years) with VMWare v5.x and 6.x including the ability to make design decisions for new implementations
Experience with Platform as a Service/Container Orchestration software, like CloudFoundry, Heroku, Openshift, Kubernetes, Docker
Experience in using DSLs/frameworks for managing infrastructure as code like (or similar to) CloudFormation, Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, BOSH, etc…
Solid understanding of security and compliance frameworks, standards and implementation in public and private cloud environments like AWS, Azure, and VMware
Contribute to the development of various cloud environments and platforms within Allstate
Advocate for engineering practices and assist teams in using frameworks for infrastructure as code and immutable infrastructure concepts
Manage complex technical designs in engineering and operating cloud platform infrastructure
Advocate the strategy and manage complex designs for the continuous integration and continuous delivery frameworks and tools
Participate in an on-call rotation
Extensive experience with VMware Horizon View 6.x
Experience with Cisco UCS infrastructure
VMware VCP certification 6.x
Ability to troubleshoot all layers of ESXi and related Virtual Infrastructure components
Experience designing and implementing physical and virtual system disaster recovery Solutions
Ability to make design decisions on leveraging storage in the VMWare environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with virtualization technologies, including VMWare VSphere 5.x and 6.x. Experience with Microsoft Hyper-V a plus.
Minimum Required Skills:
8+ years of experience as a Windows Systems Engineer and/or VMware Systems Engineer.
VMware VCP certification
3+ years VMware VDI Engineering experience.
2+ years Cisco UCS infrastructure experience
Solid experience implementing, troubleshooting, and administering Windows 2008/2012 Servers, Exchange Server 2007, VMware ESX, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
Understanding of MS SQL Servers 2008/2012
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field. Additional years of professional experience may be substituted.
Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment, with multiple projects at one time.
Ability to work independently and with existing team member to identify, troubleshoot and provide resolution to complex issues.
Must be available to participate in an on-call rotation.
Experience maintaining third-party applications.
Experience with enterprise systems management solutions.
Additional Skills Requested:
5+ years’ experience with VMware vRealize Automation (formerly vCloud Automation Center)
Strong experience with VMware vRealize Orchestrator (vRO)
Experience with VMWare vCenter, ESXi, and VMware vROPS.
Ability to gather requirements necessary for the design, development and implementation of new vRO workflows
Experience with Public Cloud and Hybrid Cloud integration with vRA and vRO
Experience deploying containers using vRA
Experience with Configuration management tools like Puppet and Ansible
VMware automation, scripting, PowerShell or power CLI for managing virtual infrastructure.
May lead or direct the work of others, providing training and quality assurance for their work.
Monitor projects from beginning to end to ensure their success.
Cisco UCS Hardware and IBM Blade Center
Experience managing an enterprise level antivirus and encryption solution.
Experience managing Microsoft and third-party security patches.
