Job Description:
1. Purpose Statement: (A brief outline/description of the role)
Support the Splunk enterprise monitoring initiative. You will assist in the Splunk monitoring of Data Center and Cloud applications and infrastructure. You will assist in the installation, provisioning, configuring, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting the Splunk components within the Data Center and also in the Cloud.
You will collaborate with the engineering, development, integration, and test teams in the development and deployment of the new Splunk platform. This role ensures our enterprise solutions for enterprise monitoring meets requirements for accurate measurements, correlation, availability, capacity, alerting, and performance in a way that is efficient and supportable.
2. Main Accountabilities: (Outline a list of the main accountabilities for the role)
Work in an agile team to deliver Splunk project tasks defined within two week sprints.
Interface with internal customers, Travelport infrastructure teams (Storage, hardware, server, OS, network, Project Management, etc.…), Travelport Application teams, Travelport Commercial Operations team, and Travelport APM Governance/ownership team.
SPLUNK monitoring and platform assistance - including alerting and reporting.
Maintain the SPLUNK ITSI platform. Drives performance improvements, maintains patch levels, and performs platform upgrades.
Implement SPLUNK service and app monitoring for new applications, devices, and platform components as they are added to the system.
Identify and handle data discrepancy problems within the SPLUNK monitoring system. This would include review and reporting on capacity constraints, inconsistent data ingestion, inconsistent monitoring data and data size limit evaluations, and working with other team to identify/fix their data discrepancy problems.
Support the requests for enhancement requests, problem reports, and general Splunk monitoring guidance and standards.
3. Knowledge, Skills, Experience, Training, Education:
MS in Computer Science or equivalent combined work experience with a BA or BS degree in CS.
2+ years of experience with Splunk and Splunk Cloud on a large enterprise level
5+ years in IT infrastructure, networking, architecture, administration, and/or java applications
Splunk training and/or certifications would be a major plus
Ability to build custom searches and visualizations in both Splunk Core and Splunk ITSI
Experience with one or more of the following server technologies: Java, Node, .NET, or PHP.
Experience with Cloud environment services such as AWS, Microsoft Azure.
Proficiency in Python scripting is highly preferable.
Regex experience is highly preferable.
Ability to perform a variety of highly complicated tasks simultaneously.

o Database platform skills
o Experience with APM toolsets, including: AppDynamics, NewRelic or equivalent.
o Automated build platform/continuous integration experience and knowledge.
o Experience with automated testing tools and frameworks. Test-driven, unit, or automated testing development experience.
o Common open source monitoring/metric software, including: Nagios, Ganglia, etc.
o Common open source build software, including: GIT, Jenkins, etc.
o Puppet\Ansible\Docker tool experience, managing system configurations.
o ITIL best practice framework
