Role: Sr. Big Data Engineer.
Location: Washington, DC

Required Qualifications:
Hands on development experience- 100% development, Working with Hadoop/Cloudera cluster data
Experience working with large data environments; working with data
5+ years of full-time, industry experience
2+ years of strong scripting ability in Ruby / Python / Bash
2+ years of working knowledge of relational databases and query authoring (SQL)
Design and operation of robust distributed systems
Love to use and develop open source technologies like Kafka, Flume, Hive, Impala, and Spark (Hive
and Spark are a MUST. Experience with Hive, Spark AND any of the additional open source
technologies is a HIGHLY DESIRED
Experience with NoSQL technologies; Strong SQL experience (querying)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with Java is HIGHLY preferred
Experience working with large data environments – petabytes or hundreds/thousands of terabytes;
Working knowledge of U.S. Healthcare Industry
Experience with No SQL technologies such as HBase or Cassandra.
Past experience with data warehouse/data analytics solutions and technologies, especially ETL
EDUCATION:
BS/MS in Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science
The ideal candidate will have experience with technical software development and can design and
develop complex solutions within our Cloudera clusters. This person must be able to support the
integration of Big Data technologies into our mainstream data solutions from architecture through
implementation.
Tasks:
Will also support the design, development and implementation of Big Data solutions for the Informatics
Teams
Assess requirements and determine design for Informatics solutions to be implemented in Big Data
Design, build and launch extremely efficient & reliable data pipelines to move data (both large and
small amounts) to our Data Hub
Code development using HIVE, Spark Streaming, Kafka, and Flume
Work closely with Ab Initio ETL developers to leverage that technology as appropriate within our
Cloudera Big Data environment
