Title: Software Systems Engineer
Location: GLEN ALLEN, VA 23060
Contract duration: 12 months
Qualifications:
The critical skills needed for this position are listed below:
1. Communications – excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts and ideas.
2. Creative problem solving, intuition and troubleshooting skills.
3. Operating Systems – ability to use UNIX, Linux (Red Hat, Centos) and Windows.
4. Languages –
a. Bash shell scripting – able to create, modify and troubleshoot scripts.
b. C – able to understand, read, modify, build and C applications.
c. Ability to debug and troubleshoot C applications with gdb.
5. Relational databases – create, edit, query and access RDB tables using MySQL or other database.
6. Must be willing to do after hours/weekends system support – Ability to respond to trouble calls after hours/weekends on a duty call rotation.
The skills and knowledge listed below would be beneficial for this position:
Understand process control systems such as SCADA system.
Text editors - Ability to use text editors such as emacs and/or vi to create source code and files.
Perl language – able to create, modify and troubleshoot Perl scripts.
CGI, HTML(CSS) and Javascript experience for web development.
Apache web server experience.
Network principles and Cyber Security knowledge.
Ability to communicate and interact with various departments and groups within the company.
Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, this fully competent role works from specifications to develop or modify moderately complex software programming applications and information systems.
Assists with the design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging and documentation of programs.
Works with an individual business unit on specific project assignments.
Receives guidance from more experienced Software Systems Engineers in complex problem areas, errors may cause minor delay, expense and disruption.
Effectively utilizes the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to problems encountered in work assignments.
Identifies and eliminates unnecessary work and non-value added activities.
Related software experience desired.
