Position: Senior Systems/DevOps Engineer

Summary:
Part of a team responsible for engineering functions as they relate to the planning, design, integration, test, deployment and support of client Enterprise products. Assists with testing and operational activities. Integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities. Acts as a key contributor in a complex and crucial environment.
Client Enterprise has identified Carrier Ethernet and Cell Backhaul services as a key area of growth. This individual will be a primary stakeholder in making critical decisions on client Enterprise service products that provide Service Level Agreements, specializing in access layer technologies.
This individual shall have hands on experience with a DevOps environment as client Enterprise develops solutions that for carrier customers. The DevOps team members work closely with development teams in an agile workflow to embrace and promote the DevOps philosophy. Tasks will include developing, supporting and continually improving the applications and the automated processes tied to our Service Level Management platforms. Candidate will be part of our DevOps team, responsible for other teams and users to troubleshoot application issues and improve system performance and reliability. Candidate may also need to work cross-functionally with IT to assist in provisioning of hardware or infrastructure needed to support our tools. Expected to communicate via telephone, email and web-based applications across the globe to ensure the resolution of issues, and document progress and conversations along the way.

- Partners with project managers to provide consultative direction and develops long term objectives and plans to determine resources, technology and course of action to achieve results.
- Works with other members of cross-functional teams, joint ventures, third party vendors and Company’s Product Managers and Marketing teams to deliver quality products, in a timely fashion that meet defined requirements. Establishes and maintains working relationships within client. Enterprise & Product Development teams, joint ventures, vendors and contractors.
- Understands key business drivers and applies the knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products and services.
- Anticipates and interprets customer needs, assesses requirements and identifies solutions.
- Ensures that projects are properly accepted into other client. Enterprise Teams, worked on in a timely and efficient manner and smoothly transitioned into Quality Assurance and Operations teams.
- Interprets internal/external business issues and recommends complete solutions based on best practices and proven technologies.
- Solves complex problems. Takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
- Provides guidance for the performance and reliability of various cross-platform applications and services. Ensures that system failures are restored in a timely manner.
- Participates in the review of failures and provides feedback to prevent future occurrences.

- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.
Additional Responsibility:
- This individual will work within a team of design engineers building client Enterprise. Responsibilities will focus on end to end product design and development and strategic collaboration.
- Design of carrier network products for national service providers.
Core Qualifications:
- Proven experience in an engineering role with respect to architecture, software design and development of BSS/OSS environment in support of Carrier Class services
- Experience in a product development environment is preferred
- Experience working within service provider networks in a technical capacity for Carrier Ethernet products is preferred, but not required. Work experience in Telecom, Cable or an Engineering related field is also desirable
- Demonstrated ability to create complex collaborative technical documents
- Experience designing network monitoring and service level reporting solutions
Additional Qualifications:
- UNIX/LINUX (Ubuntu or RedHat) administration
- Writing shell scripts (Bash, Powershell) and/or scripts using languages such as Python or Perl
- Source control tools like Git/GitHub, SVN and Perforce.
- Virtualization Software (Openstack, VirtualBox, VMware)
- Ticketing systems such as Jira
- Automation/Continuous Integration (Chef, Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins, etc
- SQL (postgres/mysql)
- Ability to create complex collaborative technical documents
- Experience in engineering product delivery methods and procedures.
