Who are we looking for?
The CSAA IG is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Middleware Engineer to lead and perform administration of Middleware solutions and Technologies in support of Business strategies. The Middleware Engineer position is a key technical role for implementing and supporting the key Middleware technologies such as Containers, Microservices, Message Queuing, APIs and SOA services for supporting Insurance Applications.
This position is for an individual with extensive Development experience and product knowledge to be responsible for the design, planning, administration and operational support of our Middleware infrastructure. The successful candidate will be self-sufficient and be able to perform the tasks involved in the role with limited assistance from peers, product documentation and vendor support services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, construct and support Middleware infrastructures that meet the requirements for organizational IT initiatives
Work on designing/implementing/automating procedures for deployment, configuration, patching and upgrading of systems and applications
Configure and maintain Application servers, Webservers, Containers, SOA services, Microservices in a clustered, J2EE environment, with Load Balancers for failover and High Availability (HA)
Install, patch and maintain Middleware servers on UCS
Deploy J2EE applications to Application servers in various formats including AR, EAR and JAR files
Manage Java Virtual Machine (JVM) settings and options like class path, heap size and other system settings
Conduct feasibility studies for existing and emerging middleware technologies
Analyze and modify performance settings to improve operational performance
Troubleshoot issues related to the Middleware servers and underlying technology stack
Conduct analysis of production systems and performance testing results to identify areas of improvement within the application or infrastructure
Participate in 24/7 on call support rotation.
Provide mentoring and guidance for mid and junior level staff, offering feedback targeted at individual development.
Work closely with the application teams to provide technical leadership and solutions.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science or related field
10 - 12 years of experience as Middleware administrator
In-depth knowledge of Middleware technology stack including:
Strong knowledge of Java technology including troubleshooting and diagnostic
Strong knowledge of J2EE (Java, JSP’s, Servlet, EJB, JMS, MQ, etc
Strong knowledge of Application Server technologies such as WAS, Liberty, Tomcat, JBoss & WebLogic
Strong knowledge and working experience with Linux/Unix environment
Strong knowledge of Ansible, Puppet and Terraform.
Working experience of Kubernetes, Docker, Cloud Foundry, OpenShift, Node.js and Container Orchestration
Strong knowledge of message queuing technology with focus on IBM MQ and Apache Kafka
Strong troubleshooting skills within and outside of the Middleware environment
Customer focused application support
Organized and detailed documentation skills
Knowledge of best practices related to security, performance, and disaster recovery
Knowledge of Engineering methodology, Software Engineering principle and Application design
Significant understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the Middleware field
Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers
