The Client is in the process of looking for a Linux Administrator in Richmond, Virginia. This is a contract role that is scheduled to last through the end of the year, potentially beyond, and the selected candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring the infrastructure associated with the Linux environment.



The ideal resource will also collaborate with other team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes. In addition to general experience, this individual should have expertise working with Oracle deployments, as well as Data Lake, Grid and high performance computing environments within a VSphere virtualized environment.



Linux practices are in their infancy in terms of the maturity curve within the customer''s environment, so the selected candidate will proactively build out the majority of process, automation and documentation required to sustain a Linux presence within the context of our customer’s other Platform services standards and procedures.


Responsibilities:

Install, deploy, administer and support new and existing Linux virtual servers and appliances.
Help tune performance and ensure high availability of infrastructure
Ensure maintained environments adhere to corporate environment hardening and security standards.
Design and develop infrastructure monitoring and reporting tools
Develop and maintain configuration management solutions
Develop test automation frameworks in collaboration with rest of the team
Develop automated Linux build templates within to be deployed with VCAC
Provide a point of escalation to the operations team
Participate in weekend maintenance activities as required
Monitor Linux servers and troubleshoot problems
Support, maintain and administer third party applications
Produce appropriate documentation for application deployment, configuration and related processes
Enforce change management and compliance processes
Work as a technical resource on assigned projects
Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing and response
Perform troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common server problems
Maintain proactive management and maintenance of the infrastructure to prevent service interruptions.
Schedule and prioritize work to accommodate client needs while minimizing impact on operations.
Contribute to internal project teams that establish guidelines, set procedures, outline standards, and monitor for industry compliance.
Maintain a positive and professional appearance and attitude at all times.

Qualifications:

Extensive Linux experience, preferably with Red Hat Enterprise Linux
A minimum of 7 years IT experience on multiple Enterprise platforms/technologies
A minimum of 4 years IT experience on VMware VSphere
Ability to provide leadership within a specific technology area, or across multiple technology areas, particularly to complete root-cause analysis, creating templates, perform testing, and provide documentation including standard operating procedures based on best practices.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work well with Customers at all levels (Leadership and Non-Leadership)
Extensive experience troubleshooting complex issues
Strong understanding of security within a LINUX environment
Experience with compliance standards such as SOX and PCI.
Familiarity with configuration management
Experience with or exposure to EMC storage and Cisco UCS systems
Experience using LanDesk as a software distribution, inventory and security patching tool within a Linux environment
Familiarity with the fundamentals of Linux scripting languages
Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as Bind, Apache, MySQL, etc.
Strong grasp on configuration management tools, such as Puppet and Chef
Familiarity with load balancing, firewalls, etc.
Proficient with network tools such as iptables, Linux IPVS, HAProxy, etc
Ability to build and monitor services on production servers
Experience with high performance computing or GRID environments desired
Experience with vCAC desired
