Short Description:

SQL Server DBA - 3 mo assignment with possibility of Full time conversion (no guarantees); must be interested and eligible to convert after 90 days (salary conversion range: $74K -90K with full benefits)

Job duties and Responsibilities:

The Virginia Workers'' Compensation Commission is seeking a SQL Svr Database Administrator to work within the database team to administer databases and provide database or software changes to all environments as appropriate.

The DBA will also work within the database team to apply upgrades and fixes to software and servers and migrate to new versions as appropriate. The day-to-day tasks may include analysis, design, and creation of complex stored procedures. Additionally, the Database Administrator will be responsible for creating SSRS reports, and SSIS Packages.

Other day-to-day tasks can include performance tuning of SQL queries; database optimization, proactively monitoring systems for optimum performance, tuning, and capacity constraints; production support tasks for data changes and ad-hoc reports as necessary. The Database Administrator will work with the DBA team to administer databases and provides database changes at all levels/across all environments; apply upgrades, fixes, and migration to new versions as appropriate; provide data assurance by documenting and implementing data security requirements; and perform and plan disaster recovery (backups and testing of backups) strategies. Must pass criminal background check.

Requirements:

Graduation from a four-year higher education institution, with a BA or BS degree. The education major should be in computer science, information systems, or a related field unless the candidate has equivalent in training and/or experience.

Significant knowledge, ability, and experience in developing SSRS reports, SSIS Packages and stored procedures. Significant knowledge and experience of SQLServer versions 2008 to 2014. Significant knowledge of many of the following: T-SQL; performance optimization methods; database security; SQL Table Partitioning; Stored Procedures; Triggers; SSIS/DTS/EDI/ETL; and Windows 2008 to 20012R2 server Administration.

Experience working with SQL Server using Java/J2EE connection pooling is a plus. Significant experience working with Business Systems Analysts, end-users, and Project Managers and other technical staff on small technical projects.

Preferred Certifications:

MCSA: Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate
MCSE: Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert
MCITP: Database Administrator

Required / Desired Skills:

Experience working as a SQL Server DBA using any versions from 2008 to current
Developing and publishing reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
Developing and publishing packages using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
Working within a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Working with an Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) based support system
Experience with either Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or Microsoft SQL Server 2017
TSQL Development on things such as Stored Procedures, Views, Functions, etc.
ETL/Data migration
Auditing
