We are looking for a professional with experience developing database solutions, fine tuning, and performance enhancing database objects. The successful applicant will work with project manager and developers and aid in the enhancement of the new and existing software systems in place and being developed. A professional database developer will keep the database up and running smoothly 24/7. The goal is to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the company, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users. The success candidate will be responsible for operational support, managing system health, resource management and enforcing technology standards for physical databases on specific database technologies in the development, test and production environments. Must be knowledgeable in SQL Server 2008+. Support the existing SQL Server database environment. Apply Microsoft SQL Server patches and service packs. Migrate database objects from development, QC and finally into the production environment. Troubleshoot database performance problems. Assist development staff in tuning queries to optimize the performance of the system as a whole. Assist in the analysis and design of database objects. Monitor and test backups.
Responsibilities and Duties
Build database systems of high availability and quality depending on each developer’s needs
Use high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup data
Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users
Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required
Ability to transform database objects and make them performance friendly
Demonstrates the ability to perform database troubleshooting of various types of issues, including performance, stability, and operational.
Collaborates with projects teams and assists with design, execution, and implementation of projects requiring database deliverables.
Apply Microsoft SQL patches and service packs.
Identify and troubleshoot database related issues.
Participate in the analysis and design of database objects.
Backups - verify and test database backups. Clone databases from one environment to another.
Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
Skills Required
Proven working experience as a Database developer
Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications
Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, and integrity
Familiarity with database design, documentation, and coding
Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically
Strong experience developing triggers, stored procedures, indexes, constraints, and functions
Hands on experience on database archiving a plus
Strong experience in database tuning
Strong demonstrated experience with Microsoft SQL Server Development including: creation of tables / schema-definition, views, stored procedures, functions, triggers and performance optimization
Experience working with SQL Server Analysis Services
Working hours may not always fall into the regular M-F, 8-5 pattern, so a willingness to be flexible in order to meet expectations and deadlines will be required.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or relevant certification
5+ years of SQL database development experience
2+ years experience with SQL server maintenance, replication, CDC
SQL DB focus with exceptional technical, communication, and leadership skills; ability to learn and navigate in large complex environments.
Knowledge of infrastructure, different database flavors, cloud (AWS, Azure) are a plus
Strong background in performance and process improvement
Microsoft certifications are preferred.
Experience in SQL Server database administration in a complex environment required
SQL upgrading and patching experience is required.
Microsoft Clustering Services experience is preferred
Ability to participate in off-hours (night and weekend) tasks and projects and be willing to act in a 24x7 database support role is required.
